Okay,

Is there ANYONE here who understands just what the hell the U.S. stimulus package is actually going to do to help the average worker who is out of work? I read the CNN news and try to figure out what they are talking about but I haven't a clue.

Either I am getting dumber as I get older, my graduate degrees meant absolutely nothing, or they have no idea what they are doing....:eek::eek:

Having no income for the last 5 months has been tough but it looks like another couple of years before things are going to get better IF they ever will. I have zero (NONE,ZIP, NADA) confidence in the ability of this government to fix the economy.:(

i also do not like it, its really geared towards the blue collar jobs, and i cant see why the bias.

Well, CNN just reports that 499,000 jobs in tourism will be created/saved or something. Maybe photographers can get jobs in tourism? How would I find one of those, I wonder....

Because people with lower incomes have more immediate needs than people in higher income brackets, and are more likely to spend vs. save.

I am afraid that's it -- they have no clue, but like to look sympathetic and like to look like they are doing the right thing. In reality, they are just giving the biggest handouts to all of their friends...

Good; you shouldn't have ever had any confidence in the government to fix things.

This thing is all about control- the government thinks they can fix things by controlling them... look how it has worked so far.

My son is convinced that the 800 billion should just be divvied up among us average schmoes. But then nobody would have to work for years, so I suppose the economy would get worse. Better to give the cash to people who are rich.

800 billion divided by 300 million equals $2666 per every man, woman and child.

Hmm, doesn't sound like all that much when you put it in those terms.

This stimulus only stimulates the government.

Both candidates campaigned on lower spending and the first thing they do is spend the highest amount ever.

Low taxes. Zero cap gains. That spurs the market, not government.

Heck, congress CAUSED the crash...and now they can fix it?

The US$800,000,000,000 ‘stimulus’ bill is leading the US swiftly into a social welfare state. Your banking & finance industries are already partially nationalized, and soon other industry will follow. I suggest you look for a job in healthcare or government (soon one in the same). These will be the only jobs available in the future.

The 'urgency' of the situation, at which Americans were spoon-fed by big media, has been a ploy to get you all on board and compliant--I think you were blinded by hope--at least half of you were.

The only real difference between recession and depression is the severity and longevity of the situation. 2009 will be viewed as the year in which the US and the world entered the 'Greater' Depression.

First, the people who put us in this situation need to ****ing fry. Jail if possible.

Big banks and other major corps should not get a frickin' nickel. If they do, that is socialism, not capitalism. If they have made poor business decisions, they deserve not to stay in business or at least they should suffer from those mistakes. If a small business of say 60 employees, makes a bad mistake, and they close, what happens? Nothing.

Banks should not be allowed to start jacking up the interest rates if they have rec'd any bailout money, and they are starting to do that too.

I think I have a fair amount of common sense and what is going on is pissing me off. Is it obvious?

If they would give the $2666.00 to each person, just think of the boost to the economy that would have. With 300 million people spending we would pay bills, buy cars, eating out & tiping the waiters, puting a down payment on a home. That would get the economy going & get us out of this mess a hell of alot faster. Some people would save it some would blow it, but that money would go directly to the people not to the bankers & wall street to pad their pockets, or to buy a banks in China like they have done. Those are the crooks who got us in this mess. The tax credits will take a year or more to work, so what till then.
