The Hassy' Posse...

Oscar, Andy - thanks for that. I love the square format but couldn't get on with a V series Hasselblad. I inevitably spent too much time trying to focus the darn thing and too little energy on composition. With the SWC the VF allows me to focus primarily with composition.
 
Yippee! My Distagon 50/4 for the Hassy arrived today. :)

I'll shoot a test roll tomorrow, then I'm off to visit friends on the coast at the weekend - good timing!

DOF - mine's a '72 transition model, too, in chrome. At the moment it's a chrome body sandwiched between a well-worn black magazine and a black Distagon.

So many great photos above - JVAN01, that shot of the grasses is beautiful.

We should start the UH sub-posse! Mine is chrome as well, with a black finder and chrome back - I think if it as a Hasselstein.

Enjoy the 50. I decided on the 40 when it was time to get a wide-angle. I love it when it works, but often find myself wishing for something not quite as wide. I imagine the 50 would find more use in my kit.

I agree the M7IIis an outstyanding camera but it just doesn't get the job done when you need to get in close.

Ok so what exactly is the effect of an extension tube? I know for my Canon I could get a 1.4 extension tube to make a 200mm f2.8 lens out of my 135mm f2.. is the effect the same on the Hasselblad?
For close-ups I have a Proxar lens that basically creates somewhat of a macro effect, works great on both my 80mm and 150mm lenses, but that's probably not what you were looking for with the extension tube? Please enlighten me :)

The extension tubes give you the possibilities to focus closer and so get higer magnification (macro if you wish or face close ups with a 80mm lens for instance).

When using extension tubes on Hasselblad:
- keep in mind to adjust exposure, depending on the tubes used! (there should be some info on the net about this, but i have not available)
With a 16mm extenbsion tube you have to add +1/2 EV for instance

- Be very carefull mounting/ dismounting tubes and follow the procedure:
- first mount the tube --- than mount the lens
- first dismount te lens --- than dismount the tube.

NEVER MOUNT OR DISMOUNT TUBE + LENS TOGETHER because it can jam the camera.
Never tried it because i prefer to follow the procedure instead of trying to figure out if they are exagerating ;)

There's a difference between closer focusing and macro. A thin tube that allows you to focus a 150mm lens closer than 3-4-5 feet (whatever the minimum distance is) is very useful. Say the minimum is 5 feet and a short tube cuts that to 3 feet. Huge difference in the image.

Macro is in the one half life size to larger than life size range. A different ballgame all together.
 
That's what I meant. 4.6 feet and 150mm isn't close enough for head shots or a lot of things. I know. I have a 150mm on my Pentax and I need the ext. tubes.
 
Scattered, unconfirmed reports. Tripods seem to attract attention. Maybe Security got layed off during the recession?????????????????????

One of these days I'll visit with the view camera. See what happens.
 
Wayne, this one was handheld, besides security would have to hassle the hundreds of wannabe wedding photogs before they got to me ;). I typically just smile really big then act like english is a second language
