Hi Folks,

I just love the lens; got 4 copies.
I was thinking, if you would want to connect that jewel to a digital sensor, what would your choice be ?
I know nothing about the new-gen-compact-digital-bodies-that-can-adpat-to-any-lens.
So what's the best you can think about to express the best of that lens ?

Did you have a chance to compare f/3.4 version to the older f/4 version? I am curious to hear your own experience. I was looking to get a SA f/4 for the size.

Thanks,
Steve

Nope. They're all f3.4 versions. 1 Chrome, 3 black. So far I am amazed with the 3.4 types.

Thanks for your answers. I expected someone to point me towards some small recent digital bodies, Sony and the like. Anyone using these ?

I have a black SA, and love it with B&W film. Unfortunately, it doesn't mount on my Sony NEX-5n due to the deep rear element.

I think an M9 or other FF Leica body would be your best bet.

Thanks for all your comments. I would also be willing to see what output can be obtained from the SA21/Mono combination.
Has anyone tried that yet ?

M9 does not so well with the corners, M8 better because te cropped sensor.
So far the best digital back for SA21 is Ricoh GXR M, this is the only reason I actually still keep a GXR.
I have both F4 and F3.4, F4 version has quite lower contrast than F3.4, not sure about the resolution, did not really do a head to head comparision.

Sell them all and buy a 21 3.4 Super Elmar M.

This was only one of two Leica lenses I bought and sold.

But if you like heavy vignetting to f16, keep them all. But since they barely work on film, full digital has to be a disaster .

The SA's vignetting is often valued as a positive thing, in which case it is regarded as "drama" and "character." And it can be dramatic! I would not call it "heavy vignetting to f16" though! It is only noticeable with an expanse of sky or other area of uniform brightness; and it cleans up by f/8.

I changed mine for the ASPH because I like the unique properties of the latter. But sometimes I miss the SA's small size and, OK, its "drama."
