Marc, I look at it as a 'negative option' if it's not a SLR either digital or film based I'd include it. Looking at the various forums there are listed at the side of the RFF page which members can go to such as TLR's, Argus C3's etc I'd suggest that if a camera fits one of the categories on the sidebar .. then "it's in"

That's a sound opinion. I'm a bit reluctant to include TLR, but I'll follow your opinion here. Anyway, no (D)SLR; there are too many (D)SLR forums on the web. So rule #1 should be modified as following:
"You submit your picture on the monthly theme in this thread; you can post only one picture per month, in color or B&W, and it has to be taken with a RF (35mm, MF, LF, film or digital); pictures taken with scale focus cameras, a "toy" camera (Diana, Holga), Lomo, Pinhole, or a TLR are also accepted."
Is that ok?

Sitemistic, Jon, Jan, would you mind adding a link to high res image?
Is it possible for you also to mention lens/camera used?
Cheers,
Marc

Sorry Marc-A. I sort of 'forgot' that requirement and hoped that nobody would notice.

Hi Marc, I don't like watermarks to protect an image so I don't upload high res images onto the net as a rule due to image theft. There is a larger version and I'll put a link to it here.

Regarding the equipement, I took it with a GSN using Fuji Superia 400 ISO C41 film.

lZr's Hanukkah shot is going to be a hard one to top, but I hope to submit something Marc by the 25th so keep the spirit up. I think there haven't been many people seen the thread. This is a great idea.

Good luck gb hill. One beautiful pine tree with these incredible light colorful balls can give you the magic roll. And don't forget to use the stars filter

I didn't mean to cause a fuss (and I still don't intend to); but the original rule said "rangefinder". I feel like that was a succinct enough rule, and to throw in scale focus, TLRs, etc just "muddies the water" as we say here in NC.
All this being said, I've not been shooting enough lately to enter anything anyway this month. Hell, a RF only rule makes it hard for me because my only digital is p&s and I might only make it to my camera shop once a month to turn in film &/or pick up scanned negatives. I wish I could participate, but my own circumstances prevent that and I'm fine with that.
I'm not trying to change anything now- especially at this late stage- but I just want to state that I think the simpler the rules are, the easier this could be for everyone.
This is strictly my opinion for whatever it's worth. Hopefully I'll be better suited for participation in the future.
Thanks,
barry

Barry, thanks for sharing your opinion which I kinda share. The problem is that I find Jan's suggestion legitimate too. Let's discuss it a little further before taking a definitive decision.
Maybe Srdjan (Nzeeman) can give us his opinion. We decided to join our efforts to set up a monthly contest - I can't speak on his behalf, and I don't even know if we will keep the "Magic Roll" name.
I really hope it works and we have an attractive contest in 2008!
Cheers,
Marc

Barry ...you don't have a RF, you can't find time to bring in film to have it processed, you have a digital PS, you won't be participating. .... but you want the contest to be RF only.
You're joking.. right?

Marc-A- thanks for understanding me that last time.
Jan, I didn't say I didn't have a rangefinder. I was saying I don't have a digital rangefinder. I actually have more rangefinders than I have time to shoot with. The chrome Kiev is still holding the b&w roll (the first roll in it for me) I put in back in November. The black Kiev has been holding a roll of slide film since November as well. Less daylight combined with working 2 jobs makes it difficult to get time to shoot. Also, my best bet for having negatives scanned (I can develop at home after all) is close to an hour from my home- one way. Please refer to the prior mention of 2 jobs to figure why making the trek to the camera shop is difficult- especially when they aren't open on Sundays.
Wah, wah, wah....woe is me. Big deal.
My point is that this is Rangefinder Forum and to make any future contests (this one is well enough under way to make it impractical to change things now) rangefinder only for two reasons:
1) Because Marc-A stated it that way originally.
2) Because it simplifies matters for the most part (as long as no one wants to argue about Contax Gs and Konica AFs)
I'm not wanting to be a pain here; so please don't see it that way. I just would like to be understood.
Good luck to all participants. I'll try to finish these rolls this Saturday when I go see some bands play. Flash with a Kiev?....blasphemy perhaps, but that's how it has to be.

Barry, as you noted the original post by Marc said RF. Subsequently Gabriel asked about other camera types that have listed forums here at RFF. I thought it would be good to see what these other cameras could do and they should have a chance to show their capabilities.
My thinking was when you are in the thread then it’s appropriate to consider your restrictions, but until then we shouldn’t eliminate photographers who wish to participate and you don’t. I felt it’s in the spirit of RFF to let them participate. It’s Christmas.
I’ll go with the flow. Now go shoot that film in the Kiev and upload before the deadline. Regarding two jobs, I’ve been there so I can appreciate your situation. It’s not easy
