Here's my suggestion to any camera manufacturer out there that wants to break away from the pack, stop the senseless pixel race, and bring back the fun to 35mm photography... build this camera:
1) RF body similar to Bessa or Leica, M-mount,
2) APS-C size sensor (full-frame is unnecessary and too expensive)... or maybe the Foveon would work nicely,
3) Camera creates RAW files only... thus avoiding the need to fuss around with white balance and other adjustments that can be done later (like we used to do in the darkroom... remember?)
3) Forget the LCD screen... I never wanted one to check out my film shots, so why do I need it for digital??
4) Controls: ISO dial, Exp. compensation dial, Shutter-speed dial with "A" (aperture priority).
5) Shutter speed & aperture read-out in viewfinder similar to modern SLR
6) Slot for SD card
7) A zooming viewfinder/rangefinder. Rip it out of the Canon G9 and put a focal length readout in the viewfinder that can be set to match the lens mounted.
And whoever builds this baby could do it as an SLR as well. Nikon... are you listening? I have some nice old lenses I'd like to use with your new digital F.
That's it! To my way of thinking, these simplifications remove the things I hate about using digital cameras... fussing with menus and having a little tv screen sucking my attention away from the real world.
So... did I miss anything? If not, forward this to your pal over at Cosina, Nikon, Canon or whoever.
