The OFFICIAL Plustek 120 post your scans

here you are:

http://files.berny.at/forum_kleinkram/plustek.jpg

This is 35mm FP4+ developed in DD-X. Not the best film to compare absolute sharpness, but it is what I use often.
I scanned it in Silverfast with the 16->8 setting and set the scanner at 5300dpi. I have to try the 10600 setting, maybe it works like with the older Plustek 7600, where you have to scan at 7600 dpi to get a real resolution of 3800.

I have a version of this scan made with a Coolscan and the latter shows sliiiightly more details and way sharper grain. But then, the Coolscan emphasizes grain with its hard light source which most likely also shows fine details a bit better. The Coolscans grain "problem", if you want to call it that way is definitely not there with the Plustek. Also, the Coolscan Version was scanned with VueScan which I am very familiar with, so not a fair comparison, as I just used Silverfast defaults (and turned USM off).

I still can't tell much about the scanner, but I now know that I won't be shooting any FP4 anytime soon.

.

It is a good idea to also post a link for the original size image file so that we can see how good the scans are.

I have the glass carrier for my 9000ED, but when I only had the 5000ED for which there isn't one, I used to press my negatives flat under a stack of books. Made a noticeable difference in the corners, regardless of AF.

ok, I am a geek, but not at the level of some of the people here, so easy on me...

I will post more, but until Monday I am very busy!
Next week I get four rolls E6 from my lab, and I will scan those too.

Still learning its quirks! Speed is fast, but processing , for example, a 6x7 scan at 5300PPI TIFF with iSRD, takes for effing ever!

interesting comparison, fabio, thanks for posting.

..you're welcome! here's one also on flickr, scanned at 3600dpi , 16bit tiff, downsized to 3000px on the long side for the web. Took 2:15min to scan, process and save on my computer. (with iSRD)

Very mild LR 4.0 adjustments, minimal sharpening, still learning to tweak the colors in Silver Fast ! (I sure appreciate the work of my pro color lab now!)

Fuji 400H 35mm + eos 3 + 85mm 1.8

Time to go to work!

Stop comparing the damn scanner to everything that has ever scanned film just figure it out what it's good at and what it's not and master it.

I WANT IT!!!!

Well,

considering the level of expertise of some of the people here, I am even afraid of posting anything!
But here it goes,

35mm Ektar 25, shot in 1991, cheap zoom lens, canon eos.

Scanned at 2650dpi, iSRD on, minimal sharpening.

It would be nice to see some 100% crops from 5300 ppi scans.
If possible, from different zones of the frame (to check for film flatness issues)

That might take a little while, just because I started with some old negs, I learnt I was very "cheap" when buying lenses....

I do have four rolls of E6 35mm coming next week, from Rolex 24, but I think it is mostly panning shots.

I am going to slow down on the weekend, and I will resume on Monday with the E6 stuff and some 35mm Acros.

Well, ok,

I have this one,
35mm Kodak Royal 25, it was somewhat underexposed, very dusty, and had a few scratches...

Canon cheap zoom...

(Shot in 1994, developed maybe at Ritz Photo at the Mall)

Minimal sharpening in SF, a little more (little) sharpening in LR, no output sharpening in LR.

In Flickr you can see it at 3701 x 2482, iSRD was on, but I have not learned to tweak it yet, and again, this was a neg I would not want to spend the rest of my life cleaning in PS.

At random, I may actually shot a brick wall with the Hexar AF at f8 and scan it, but don't count on it....

take care

That's a lot better than my V700 can do with 35mm.

Thanks for the posts.

..you're welcome! But I am now officially cross eyed from spending all day looking at the computer screen, geekness shall resume on Monday.

The last shot I am posting is one of my last pictures before I left San Francisco, I had only been shooting for a year and a half, the only thing I regret is not have used better lenses....

Anyway, I miss that city a lot!
