The OFFICIAL Plustek 120 post your scans

Anyone heard from Mr Hamrick at VueScan regarding support? I would not even consider this scanner without VueScan.

Plustek USA advised me to not install r22 due to a bug. They said stick with r20 or r21.

I note that the scanner uses LEDs as the light source. What is the diffusion for this? I had a Nikon Coolscan IV but the problem with it was the dreaded Callier effect, which results in all kinds of problems (exaggerated grain and scratches, for instance). Of course this only effects traditional monochrome scans but since 99% of my scanning involves b&w negatives it's important to me. Does the Plustek 120 suffer from the same issue? Or does it use something akin to the Coolscan 9000's 'rod dispersion' technique?

Nikon LS-5000 also uses LEDs and is well known for it's condenser enlarger look. It, however, aside from a few minor annoyances, never fails to deliver quality scans.

I find that thick (i.e. over-exposed) negs present the most difficulty for LED scanners.

I really dislike that software, can't wait until Vuescan comes out.

My Plustek 120 works great and i am most happy with the results!!!

I did some 120 Tmax scans all day yesterday, imported a few into Lightroom4, and printed some big prints on my Epson7900, and I am absolutely excited.

My digital darkroom is complete.

The days in the wet darkroom are awesome memories, but i am looking forward to including the P120 into my workflow!

I'm out of focus 😉 but during the wait for assistance... here we go with some tests with a modified 6x12 holder and fluid mounted film.
There is a 100% crop in the set, both scans @5300dpi

r22 was uploaded afresh and the new version now works again and supports batch scanning (wuhuw!)

Thanks for the tip...I'll have to check that out. Hopefully it fixes the some stability issues. 4 crashes in 12 scans over the weekend...

for that, check to see how much memory you have allocated.

go through the service window.

default is something like 3042?

I allocated 8000 and have not crashed since.

Hello folks.

Sorry for the delay in posting some scans from my Plustek 120!


I chose these two images to show edge detail and also tonal gradations.

IMHO, both scans are superb, and the high-res files are more than suitable for large format printing.

The original negatives are 6X6 full neg. The image of the adobe wall (taos) is tmax100. The image of the architectualr detail (portland) is konica infrared.

I wish you folks could see what I am seeing of these scans in lightroom 4.

they are absolutley amazing scans.

I am totally satisfied with my scanner!

Bautiful scans, beezil. The tonality and sharpness look fantastic. Good to see another person in addition to Fabio with excellent results.
