You mix up Uru- and Paraguay - the number of Germans in the former is not above average for South America. About 1% of its population have German origins, while in Paraguay there are about 5-7%, with more than 1% still German speaking in (mostly Mennonite) settlements.

Tons of expectations about Argentina-Germany. You know something, I was sure about Germany, but now I've started to shelter some hope.

We won several times FIFA Fairplay prize in U-20 (Argentina 2001, Malasyia 1997) and U-17 (Egypt 1997, Italy 1991) World Cups, also during the Olimpic games (Athens 2004 and Atlanta 1996). We do not have violent fouls in our local tournament. I do not remember when was the last injuried out of the field during a match.

Talking referee have nothing to do with 'fair play', he is there to make decisions, and FIFA pays them for that, it is a job not a victim. Honestly, I prefer to take advantage talking to a referee and not kicking violently skilled players.

I trust on Saturday we will enjoy a exciting game without violence. Nobody wants a bloodbath, I am right?

You are right, Atto. I, too, am looking forward to that match - and some professional refereeing.
The defenses of both teams can be exploited. Argentine has a little more overall player maturity, perhaps - and Messi. Even if he does not score, he draws two defenders, freeing someone else's feet. This could be a festival of shots-on-goal with Argentina the winner by 3-2 ...

Yes, it's a shame such a decisive match this early... Sadly one of them must leave... I can't wait! I'm more nervous than ever... I fear Germany a lot more than Brazil... I will suffer the 90 minutes... Or more... 😱

4-3, regardless of who wins would be fun to watch. no more plodding, defensive football, please. let's see some nice creativity, movement, spacing and invention. some fancy passing, dribbling and shooting would be appreciated, too. total football or joga boga would make me happy no matter which team(s) does it. with my Yanks out of the contest, I'm now rooting for Brazil, the Netherlands or Spain, simply because I think they're all enjoyable to watch.

I trust Argentina 100%... I just don't trust Germany: they're so d*mn fast and dangerous... And they have that spiritual strength on never giving up the fight... And physically they're long lasting tanks...

I think with CR out, Messi will play with confidence, and he needs a goal, and Tévez will be the roughest gladiator for sure especially in this match, and no doubt Higuaín wants 3 goals to be the top scorer, so I don't care too much about Argentina scoring... They're a lot of cracks together and they make the spaces... I guess Maradona is more worried about Argentina's defense strategy than about scoring... I would ask my forwards to give everything during the first half, and I'd replace two of them with Pastore and Milito for the second half: Argentina has an exceptional forward this time, and Maradona should use such an incredible and unusual strength because for Germany would be a high risk to replace their defenses when they get too tired after Messi's, Tévez' and Higuaín's first half effort... But as I said before, Germans score easily, so even if Argentina's forwards have a great day, three goals by Germany are a problem and could be the normal thing... I guess Maradona is about to face his hardest match in this cup... I'll keep some valeriana near me...

I predict Germany-Argentina will be a somewhat boring match. No goals in the first half, one goal in the second.

Argentina will win if you ask me. Germany's ok but let's be realistic about it. Who did they win against so far? Australia, Ghana and a rubbish English team. And they lost against Serbia. The German team right now plays a more attractive football than previous teams did in the past but that doesn't necessarily mean they're more likely to win.

Hey I'm part Swiss, so watch out! 😉 (Luckily I'm also part Brazilian!)

But really Switzerland got lucky with their goal against Spain and then played defense as if their life depended on it. It wasn't Spain's best performance but then again, it was their first game in the tournament.

As far as Germany is concerned I'm not saying they will definitely lose against Argentina or that they don't play well. All I'm saying is let's not assume that because they played well against mediocre teams they'll play just as well against a good team like Argentina.
