Different culture, different games. I think I watched 2 or 3 american football games on tv. Switched off after 15 minutes because in those 15 minutes I
only saw 5 minutes or less of ballplay. Boring for me.

What a lousy game of football. Brazillians getting mugged all day, and the only fouls called were AGAINST Brazil for Robben's cynical and inexcusable diving. He should have had two yellows for blatant simulation in the first ten minutes.
Ugh. That's the sort of match that Americans watch and think, "People actually like this game?" It turns it into figure skating with a ball. "That dive was an 8, I'm convinced!"
It wasn't the dive that resulted in the red card. That was a pretty mean obstruction.
The Dutch played lousy during the first 20 min, but slowly improved after that and ruled during the second half. I'm not impartial, but the Dutch deserved this outcome. They proved that they can deal with set backs and pull strength from it.

Yes indeed, despite their reputation, Brazil have always practiced the dark arts.
Of course the Dutch had von Bommel, a clogger if ever there was one, and also the expert diver Robben. What a ponce that bloke is, a pity because he's a good footballer.

In hockey, a penalty can be given for diving. I wish they would start that in soccer.

after the cup, it might be good time to revise some rules in football, like using assisting video judges. I know some readers consider this almost blasphemy

To what I have seen, Holland, Argentina and Germany are all capable of putting more intensity to the game. That will be what determines the World Champion. I bet it won't be Spain even if they play great.
As for the game today, the Netherlands were more of a team. They were pressing like Pokemons at the end and Brazil looked completely lost.
Mugging, diving is part of football. I did it, we all did. You get caught, yellow, if not the case than the ref is bad, not your fault.

But then using your hand DOES pay off. And Ghana loses. SO Suarez goes from goat to hero. Without his hand, Ghana would have won on that play at the goal. Instead we have penalty shots and Uruguay goes on.

or, the best way for the referee would probably have been to just give the goal, say the ball has crossed the line (even though it hasn't) and not give Suarez the red card. wait. still give him the red card, just for the protocol.
