Fantastic! in NZ's final substitution they brought on a guy who works in a bank. He had to ask for special permission to have the time off to play in the World Cup.

Just a bit of a shame at how they played. They went on the field thinking they wouldn't stand a chance to it was all out rear defense. Even after Italy started getting worked down they didn't lift it enough, they didn't take the chance to actually try and win the damn game.

I'm thinking about the next round without england, france, italy, germany and spain. That would be weird.

Not really. Too much passion for the 'trappings' and not enough for the country or the game.

A weird cup, especially if we consider yet all of them can be the world champions...
Too soon for me to guess anything...

Of course,as an Italian I'm not happy for the result but what the heck next time our players will get up earlier ! As many other major teams, Italy must be more concentrated and play the cards it has. The simple ball possession, although indicator of a field superiority, isn't enough if you continue to make the same mistakes. Against the NZ players, much stronger physically and generally taller they should have played a different game. However, maybe it will be weird for you but - national pride aside - all these players gain so much that if they don't win it's just a double shame on them. They are expected to be among the best players in the world, results and tactics aside, and they MUST play (work) accordingly. Their minimum salary is so high that I would need a whole life to get it and probably it wouldn't be enough. Each one of them gets MILLIONS of EUROS each YEAR. Not my choice at all - usually I neither watch football matches here - but I can't change it either. They should gain much less so that they will be pushed to deserve higher prizes, but in this way they are just like all the other stars who think that everything is due to them for free. Real life (also on the field) isn't like this at all and it's time they learn the lesson.
Edit: when the reporter said that NZ was the LEAST valued football team at these games (I heard its victory is given 1:2000 by bettors) I was already sure of a weird result. Italy is typically prone to that.

You're right... And I wouldn't be surprised at all if all or most of the big teams win their next matches... I'd be surprised if all of them lose or lose again...

Football is a reflection of our current society. The rich, including the football stars, are so disconnected wit the daily life of the masses that they do not understand their huge responsibility in carrying a nation's colors and pride.May I be honest ?

Look at France, players went on strike this afternoon .... should we even be surprised in such a country ?
I have to admit, i only know a few words in Italian. I am amazed though how each of them were so fitting to express how Italy is performing.

Yep Marconi's factory is just up the road from me and if I could afford a shed in Positano that would do us rather nicely !

Kaká was not as bad as for missing the next match... And Brazil as always: doing no more than just what's necessary to win... But any team can lose against them... Maybe Argentina could send them home in the end...

I'm sure you're being sarcastic. The level of fakery toward the end of the game was appalling. Kaka's ouster due to a obvious piece of acting by a Cote d'Ivoire player was disgraceful. This is one of the reasons why N. Americans have a hard time accepting football. This bull**** must be stopped. You don't see American Football or Hockey players pulling this kind of crap. If they are on the ground, it's because they really are hurt. One of the commentators on ABC lamented the "culture of complaining" in the game. I love football. I love the way the ball is moved around, the strategy, the beautiful movements of the players. But, when a player can be ejected for doing absolutely nothing, I draw the line. And this would be of limited irritation if it weren't such a common occurrence in football.

Yes, I was being sarcastic. I should have put this emoticon at the end of my comment: :bang:
