The Official RFF FIFA World Cup 2010 Thread

Paraguay did go through, but only on penalty shots. We'll see on Ghana. I think South American teams tend to underestimate things sometimes.

Uruguay obtained their second cup in Rio de Janeiro, in the Maracaná against 110,000 fans of Brasil. They are braves.

So the same guys are playing for Uruguay in this World Cup as did in 1950? Wow! They must be amazing! :)

Uruguay is small. Children, grandchildren...
Genetics probably.

very sorry for the japanese, at least they showed some class and spirit here and there, as opposed to the sloppy, clumsy team of Paraguay.
baaaad game, also by the referee(s). again. :(

I'm pretty sure Uruguay will win against Ghana. They won against the US (in overtime!) because the two teams are more or less in the same league. Uruguay is definitely a league above.

If Brazil wins against the Netherlands they will then play Uruguay. Brazil will probably win that one.

In the end it'll hopefully be Brazil-Germany or Brazil-Argentina. That would be a big one!

No one's beaten Portugal for nearly two years, and in this world cup no one's scored a goal against them!

Portugal-Spain match in thirty minutes...

Cheers,

Juan

Quite dull prospectives...
WC 2006 - Germany - Argentina (quarter final)
WC 2002 - Germany -Brazil (final)

Deja vue?

Is more than just 11 players. Look Spain, good team, but the have not spirit, they did not won nothing -do not start with eurocup-. Look Italy, they always plays awful -sorry my italian friends- and they have 4 cups. In the decisive moment, ones fails, others can do it.

you have... -interesting- views on football, but I can't really disagree with you about the whole thing about the italian team.

I tend not to believe in a national persona when it comes to sports. The team either wins or loses on a given day based on what they bring to the pitch. History means nothing to a football.

With knock-out tournaments, it is how the teams play on the given day. Also you need a little bit of luck. From my perspective, competitions like the WC, Euro, Champions League are dodgy because sometimes the best team doesn't win. I think a league table is the only way to sort out a winner; league tables don't lie. I know you can't do that in a tournament. Here in America they have a preposterous system of leagues then a small number that finish at/near the top of the leagues play a knock-out system in a small number of games to find a "champion". It's antithetical to any kind of sporting reason as the worst qualifier out of the league can end up as "champion".

That's why I like club football so much; they play in leagues.

Joder que está aburrido! bored to dead!

Edit: Llorente do not know how to score with head!

Edit II: nice goal.

I do not argue that they are great.
But if they are so great then maybe they will play every time without any group mess?

Or the other teams could just play better?

Actually, what you suggest is what the Americans do in Baselball. They hold a national competition and call it a 'World Series'. Go figure...
