The SLR equivalent of a mechanical Leica M

Nikon FM/FM2 or, if you really want to go old-school, just about any of the Pentax Spotmatic variations - Know several of the old-time war photogs who swear by Spotmatics from the Vietnam era - almost indestructible.
 
Nikon F3 hp There are some exceptional fine lenses made by Nikon and Zeiss for this camera. It is also very sturdy and well designed. If you wanted an SLR to back up an M6 this would be my choice. And, like the M6 batteries are simple and abundant.

Some of us can probably recall the standard 1960/70's PJ outfit consisting of two or three Leica M's with wide angle lenses and a Nikon F with a telephoto.
