I really wonder how that 'rumor' got started. I've had three Leica ASPH lenses (50, and both 35s). Never saw a bad bit of bokeh from any of them. And, in fact, i preferred it to most other lenses.
I remember seeing someone's test/comparison — between one of the 35ASPHs and the pre-ASPH Type IV, i think. The Version IV actually showed the more confusing, double-line/nissen out of focus rendering.... King? Not so much.

'they' compared it only with V2 and V3 which 'they' detest for their bookeh. In comparisons with the ASPH, the ASPH gives more pleasing pictures compared to V4, also in bookeh

I respectfully disagree. I owned a 35 ASPH, but sold it. I prefer my 35 Type IV. De gustibus no disputandum.
