The Undead Street

Re GRD3/Ikon 520 shots: Thanks Jamie & Stewart.

Cigarette guy literally walked through the framing of a mere wall shot, but of course humanly galvanized its political relevance. I'm very grateful for his improvised choreography (and for GRD).

And yes, the people in the Ikon shot were 'dodged' into silver beings. The were overexposed already (unlike the lovely floral background) but had such snotty demeanors that I decided to make them metallic aliens.

Fellow prisoners in the splendor and travail of living, though sometimes our hostages.

What pathos. Like seeing an ancient Adam and Eve separated or divided by the tree of knowledge--which in turn is fenced off from them. The Larkin poem "Talking in Bed" comes to mind--

'At this unique distance from isolation
it becomes still more difficult to find
Words that at once true and kind,
Or not untrue and not unkind.'

The girl asked afterward if what I had was a metal detector. The Autocord was on my monopod. So I taught her how to frame, focus and shoot it.

thanks ... yes, I didn't know the poem but that was sort of the intention ... one of the few photos where I actually knew what I was doing before I pressed the button

I enjoy the way that subway systems throw me into a tube with a dozen, a hundred, a thousand other humans and not-humans and smash us together so that for one brief moment on our varied journeys from and to different places we are connected only through our disconnection with the world and weather and air and and and of the world just outside the station.
