So, does this mean that the black 50mm in a Nikon D70 box that I bought for $35.00 from a guy with Oregon plates on his truck might be "hot"?

P.S. Ya'll know I'm just kidding, don't you. I have not been to the Camera swap meet yet, therefore I still do not have a Leica body.

I love those stories!
Good going Jorge.
I have always wondered about how much on EBay is stolen. A dealer in our local antique mall was moved out quickly, and i asked what happened. She had shops in several malls in the area, was stealing from one mall and selling it on the other. I wonder how long it will be before EBay earns the reputation of being the biggest clearing house for stolen goods ever. I hope they do something to patrol Fraud and Crime on it.

Ew. Second on the "Family Crisis" bet. This marks the beginning of a story, that's for sure.

If the cameras I buy are stolen, then they must be lifted from estate sales...........

Jorge, you are incredible! Cool story. If I were the owner of that camera shop, I'd give you some nice lifetime cam. discounts!

lovely story
lovely story
Unless they find more stolen goods from previous buyers, with 1000+ feedbacks, I highly doubt the guy is directly connected or get busted. If he is guilty, I feel bad for previous buyers. Most likely they will all have their gears confiscated and loose out on the money they spent. I hope no one bought any Leica equipment from him. That could possibly be a very expensive lost if the guy is guilty.

Great catch, Jorge! Stuff like this helps me maintain my faith in people! If your local newspaper does a story about this could you post it (or a link)? Definitely like to hear "the rest of the story"

Actually looking at the auction, I doubt the seller (fotoplus) is guilty. It would be hard to believe that the crook is such a moron that he would post this on a public auction site, knowing the camera is a collectors item and it will have rabid fans who are ultimate gearheads looking at it. On top of that, he shows his location, and even offers for local pickup. I am willing to bet that the store owner is probably a little photo shop and a legitimate business. The real crook walked in one day and sold the camera to him. He then hands this camera to his dad, who is retired and has free time, and he puts it up on eBay. Jorge's investigative work will most likely point the finger at the real crook, but I think fotoplus is innocent. Good work Jorge.
What do you guys think?

I kinda agree with Pradeep. He also seems to know what he is selling. I'd think he had a great deal on that MP, and did not care where it comes from - which IS, of course, a big mistake of him.
Well done, Jorge. Now, would you look after my contax too, pls?
By the way, i still check the local ebay-type auction site - and ebay too, for my stolen stuff, but nothing.

If anything, this guy is guilty of handling stolen good and having stolen goods in custody. Even if he didn't know they were stolen he cans still be found guilty of these offences.
