There I Was, Photographing an Abandoned Car in Whitehall...

Quite; especially given the price of coffee around Whitehall. Better to walk towards Charing Cross and go down one of the side streets for a takeaway and drink it in the park...

Far too far to walk first thing in the morning before breakfast. 🙂 I just stopped at the first place I came across.

I am curious if British security types have a more sophisticated way of dealing with people who happen to be in the street that they've just rather invisibly closed off than yelling at them from 100 yards away. If it been later in the day, many more tourists would have found themselves inadvertently caught up.

Apparently, while I was at that cafe, security people closed off the street both south and north of me.

Ha. Similar thing happened to me many years ago... in downtown DC just blocks away from the White House. It wasn't a "security threat", but a double homocide that happened across the street. I must have been totally enchanted with my dining mate because we had a table at the window and could have seen the whole thing happen had we been looking in that direction. But we saw NOTHING until we left the restaurant and found ourselves right in the middle of the crime scene investigation site.

If they were the first on the scene they'd be trying to close off the street and so on, but shouted to warn you. The last thing we need these days is to lose a tourist.
