Come to think of it. He was wearing a Jimmy Buffet Hawaiian shirt. A dead giveaway that he was from Cleveland or something like that.
I was thinking a little more East.

If they got it they wouldn't think it was stupid. Regardless, anyone who would make such a comment in that setting is not worth listening to.
I don't think "knowing what the camera is" is a prerequisite for judging it.
The man who thought it was "stupid" might have been a NASA engineer who understood it completely, and upon hearing the explanation given, concluded it was "stupid".
Again, I'd like to know what the OP said to the guy.
It's always best to hear both sides of an incident before drawing conclusions.
The OP wanted to validate his experience by sharing it with a like-minded group and getting "high-fived". I'm simply curious as to what was said to the other party.
Rarely do people act dismissive in this fashion out of the blue. Perhaps the man who felt it was "stupid" felt he was being treated in a condescending manner?
Why would they not think it was "stupid" if they "got it"?
The person might be highly educated and intelligent, but he just feels that using antiquated lenses and a manual focus system to not be as efficient or effective as using modern AF equipment. They are perfectly entitled to their opinion, just as you feel that using antiquated equipment gives you better "vision", feelings of being artistic, more control, nicer images, or whatever.
Some people think turntables and vinyl records are "stupid", others claim more musicality over digital storage.
It's just an opinion, not a matter of "getting" anything. "Getting it" meaning it's superior because you like it is an elitist concept.
I don't get this thread??
"Some guy" didn't like the OP's camera. There aren't too many who like my Kiev.🙄
II would be very surprised to hear "stupid" from an adult, unless they were clearly drunk - even my toddler knows it is boorish to use "stupid" in polite conversation (Fred, M.V. - machts nichts what Akiva may have said to the guy, or how he said it).
eh eh eh ... you got a good laugh out of me after 90 minutes in Paris traffic jams with 32 celsius, no AC ! thanks.Did someone pee in your Cheerios™ this morning?
Scientologists feel they "get it" and you don't.
People who belong to a cult that believes the world is ending and that they must drink poisoned kool-aid are positive they "get it" and you don't.
there were about, I guess, about 150 people there. It was for his daughter. Big spread. By some guy, I mean, I did not know him personally. I told him it was like a rangefinder of old but with a digital sensor. I told him that other then that it was mostly a manual camera. He just looked at me and said that's stupid and walked away. Of course I was amused by this rather abrupt dumb statement.
And "they" was just to be philosophical.
Calling any camera "stupid" tells more about speaker than camera. Things are just more or less usable or useful. Stupidity is property characterizing human beings.
