Think I'll stick with film.

I'll second that. Just sold my last digital item - and not returning to the digital land until they figure things out - until you can upgrade sensors without changing bodies/lenses, etc.

Ahh, my RF645 is a good friend.

Which one? There are more than 199 versions of film which may not be supported by future chemistry 🙂

Since dcraw is mentioned on the OpenRAW website, dcraw is to digital capture what photographers formula is to film.
Both are open to those willing, and able, to either mix their own chemistry or program their own converter.

But I do avoid companies who don't open their file formats like hell! Encrypting information so I can't use MY pictures is a big NO for me.

That may be never 🙁

At the moment there are three medium format cameras left which can be equiped with exchangeable digital backs.
The Rollei 6008 accepts only a very limited range, the Hasselblad 500 may or may not be out of production and the H1/H2 range is heavily pushed with Hasselblad/Imacons own backs.
Don't know about offerings for Mamiya.

I doubt that there will be another digital back for the Leica R8/R9.

The decision for a digital camera is a tough one, you buy a body with a lifetime, the bodies life, supply of film and you have to make sure that the compromise you make is one you can live with for a couple of years.

I think both Mamiya and Pentax are coming out with digital versions of their 6x45 cameras.

The Hasselblad digital back for the 500 series is expensive, but given how rugged those cameras are I think it's worth serious consideration.

(Wouldn't it be nice if they developed a sensor that could fit in various TLRs? It might only work in those that have separate shutter cocking levers, like Rolleicords, the Yashica D, Mamiya C220, and Ricoh Diacord, so you don't have to have a roll of film in the camera for the shutter to get charged.)

I think I'll stick with digital and film.

Why limit yourself to one medium? That's just ludicrous thinking.

btw, the proprietary raw format problem is really of no consequence to me since I can only afford one digi body + lenses 😀

And on the other hand, why buy into a medium that has to be 'upgraded' at the manufacturer'r whim every couple of years or so? A medium which has obsolescence as it's core value? A medium which in a few years time will be rife with proprietory formats and corporate control over YOUR images, especially with people like Sony entering the digital camera market.

I use film, and only film, because that is what I WANT to use. Messing about with pixels on a computer screen I leave to IT nerds like Bill Gates.

Andy,

You seem to be a bit "feisty" tonight. And, BTW, If you truly believe what you say - why do you have an Avatar? Didn't you have to go and mess about with pixels on a computer screen to upload it?

I prefer film in most instances because I am an "photographic amatuer enthusiast". But I cannot be such an ostrich as to ignore new technologies altogether. So I do have some digital gear and do use it in certain instances.

Enjoy film. Cherish it. Use it exclusively if you so desire. But cut the rest of us a little slack that maybe we're not all as "puristic" as you.

Peace.

I'll start 'cutting some slack' when you digital users get it through your heads that some of us have zero interest in digital. NONE. That is not being an ostrich. It is not being a luddite. It is not being elitist. It is not being 'purist'.

'New' does not equal 'compulsory'.

We use film because that is our medium of choice.

Geez, Andy, I thought I said that.

No one is going to "make" you go digital and I think the vast majority of us here are film users who are basically in agreement - although perhaps also willing to use digitals from time to time.

It's your photo life - live it as you want!

Why buy a new car since it depreciates so much quicker than an old one? Because people want and have the money to.

Since you don't want any corporations to get involved in your images, are you going to build your own lens using your own glass, and create your own special blend of AndyK 400 film? LOL !

LOL, So you're a "somehwhat" nerd since I see some digitized images in your gallery..

If you had a point to make, you should have at least made it a solid one.

Hey Andy, I think you are absolutely right.

You should "stick with film".

Wasn't that the point of your thread?

Everyone, let's all agree....

ANDY SHOULD "STICK WITH FILM" !!

BTW: I believe it's about 1:30 AM over there in the UK - time perhaps for some "downtime"? 😉

Change the record, that's the same tired old argument spouted by all who have succumbed to digital.

I have the record playing on repeat because none of you luddites can make a reasonable argument as to why you are spewing your luddite sentiments on an internet message board.

Stop spewing stupid crap, then maybe we'll start to actually take in what you're saying.

I'll choose my own downtime thanks. Btw, it's 12.30

Ha! but you do admit that it is a stout argument pointing out the hypocrisy in your statements.

Stop spewing stupid crap, then maybe we'll start to actually take in what you're saying.

I find your tone needlessly aggressive.

I have argued the point, while you choose to spout insults.

Tinplate, glassplate, pinhole, vintage large format lenses...

Not an insult, it's fact.

Which ones from your gallery were made by your own glassplate or pinhole lens?
