thinking of getting the 27...

have you ordered yet?

I bought the one from John in the classified. I would have at $200 all in even if I had this deal.
$50 is $50....

I have a full stable of Fuji again for the fall event and school portrait season.
This year I'm judt going to stay put with it all.
I would like a 1.2/56mm. Considering I would use it mostly for "sitting" portraits, I can use an adapted lens instead. Magnified focus is esential for wide open portraits.

Joe,
I've been down this road a couple of times (27 plus x-e body). Both times I sold the bodies and returned to the X100S, then X100T. I find that the X100-type cameras are a much better bang-for-the-buck carry-everywhere camera. The X100 cameras give you an ND filter, silent operation, more compact size, and (the BIG deal for me) a beautiful optical viewfinder with the option of an EVF.

I still have the 27mm lens and use it from time to time on my X-T1. But I carry/use the X100T FAR more often.

My opinion in this matter... sell the X-E1 and pick up a used X100S or save up for the X100T.

By the way, Zach Arias (yes I know... he's a big-time Fuji fanboy) says if he could only have one of the Fuji cameras, without question he'd keep the X100T.

i use the xe1 as a second body...i'm mostly shooting with the 16 and the 56 when i head out these days and it's nice not to have to change lenses on one body. ideally, i'd like to find a used xe2 and keep the 27/23 on the xe1 full time, have 2 xe2 bodies for the 16/56...

I called B+H and asked how long the lens would sell at this price. They said that the lens would be sold at this price until 9/18/2015.

I just bought the X-Pro 1 camera from the classifieds here and need a lens for the camera. I've decided to get the 27mm 2.8 for my very first lens.
One of the reviews I read said it was pretty darn fast to autofocus and quite a bit faster than the 35mm 1.4.

Thanks for the tip on the sale price of the lens!

it's an excellent walk around lens and it does focus pretty fast on the xe1.

I like the image quality produced by the 27. And I love its size. But it sure is noisy and jittery while it achieves focus. This is another reason why I prefer the X100T. I tend to use the 27/X-T1 kit when I'm looking around at landscape (natural or urban). The X100T is for street/people and compact travel kit.

Hi Ellen

It's a great deal in a useful lens.
I would recommend you get tge 35mm regardless of if you take the 27mm deal or not.
In fact if budget is a concern I would pass on the 27 and wait for a 35mm (that's just me).
The XF 35mm is THE lens in the fuji line. Even if it's af technology is beginning to become a bit greybearded. 😉

Fuji currently has the 35mm as part of on sale camera lens bundles.
It would not be a surprise to find the 35mm standing alone on sale next week.
Especially with the new f2/35mm release likely coning in this quarter.

Cheers!

Hmm…you are raising good points. Maybe I will wait to see if the 35mm goes on sale. After all, I would prefer the speed of the 35 at 1.4 rather than the 27's 2.8. In any event, the camera won't even be shipped to me until tomorrow so I do have time to decide.

Too bad you weren't able to be at the recent RFF gathering at The Pine Box. It would have been nice to meet you. Were you able to get together with Raid while he was in Seattle?

When I used the X-Pro1, I used the 35mm and 27mm as my two lenses... I'd be torn if I went back and could only choose one lens.

The X-Pro1 feels most "Leica Like" with the 27mm and will focus faster (but not really fast fast). However, the 35mm is a great all around lens for the system. It is also one of the slower lenses for the system too with regard to AF speed.

Lot's of nice used lenses out there too. The Fuji Forum has had a few 35's at the $300mark.
Fuji users seem to take very good care of their gear which makes finding good used items pretty reliable.

Wish I could have made that meet up. Looked like a really nice time. I'm just on a strange weekend schedule with my current project.

🙂

On the new firmware there is very little difference in AF speed between the two, and the 35mm fuji is one of the best 50s around. Truly a special lens.

The 27mm arrived today. Man it's small!
It's a really really nice fit on the XA1 and XE1.
Need some time with it. Looking forward to a few days off! 🙂

(whenever that happens)
