Thinking of selling my G2 kit.

I'm thinking about selling my G2 Kit so I can buy an Epson RD-1. Should I do it? I really love my G2, but it just sits in a camera bag in the closet. It's such a great performer. I don't know what to do.

Well, I just got a G2 kit to replace my R-D1. Perhaps we should've gotten together first. It's a wonderful piece of kit but if you're not going to use it, I say sell it off to help finance the Epson. You can always pick another set up fairly easily if you do change your mind.

My recommendation would be go get it out of the cupboard and use it for 3 or 4 rolls, to remind yourself of what its like to use and the results you get from it. If, after that, you decide you just won't use it then, sure, pass it on to someone who will. But maybe you'll find you really like it and, having "reconnected", you'll go on to use it more.

I just bought a G2 kit, mostly to see what its like (first impressions are good). But I don't yet know if its something I'll use or something I'll have enjoyed learning about but won't use much. If its the latter then I'll send it off to a better home.

Don't sell. It's just too good of an optics and RF body value to sell. I try to use mine at 1 roll per 2 months and everytime I get the film back, I realize what a special camera it is.

think about what you really want and then act on it.

this is what i have just done, thought about what i wanted, what i would use to make photographs and sold off some gear and am in the process of getting what i believe will suit me better.

If you're not going to use it you may as well sell while you can get a decent price for the camera. I sold my black kit w/ 21,28,45 and 90 for $3k. About $400 more than I paid for it!!!

I'm thinking of selling the G2 as well. I haven't used it since last August -- it's a durn good camera with lenses, though, I keep flopping between selling that or the ZI (I like them both, but but.. I just don't take photos for wannabe-art anymore, only occasional snapshots and a P&S digital is best for that). Heck, I haven't used any of my "real" cameras since February, and just sold my Leica M2. 😛

I use my M6 and M3 all the time and the DLux-3 for snapshots. The G2 sits there in the closet, but I know how good it is and can't bring myself to selling it. I would like a DRF, but I'm not sure how good the RD-1 really is. Why can't Contax make a digital version of the G2? It would be the best DRF on the market.

I love the RD-1 but am having a real problem with failing eyesight so am looking for a G2 kit to replace my M% and RD-1. It's been a truly excellent camera but I bought a Pentax K10 to see how I do with anti shake and auto focus. The AF is a blessing for us old guys.

I just sold my G2 with five lenses (21, 28, 35, 45, 90, 35-70) on eBay. Like others here, I was using it less and less. A great camera, but it didn't compare to what I was getting from my RF645. And for those times when I wanted something smaller/more responsive, I was less and less happy with it. Can't put my finger on why, I just was. I am now looking to get a Zeiss Ikon as a substitute.

I sold my G2 kit last year during a clear-out and 'rationalisation' of my kit, but I have regretted selling it so much I'm on the verge of buying another. I sold off my Canon gear at the same time and there is definitely a place for a zippy autofocus camera when you have a lot of rapidly moving children in the household ;-) and I think the G2 with its gorgeous lenses fits the bill.

I sold my G2 stuff last year. Some non-sense about not using it enough to justify keeping it. Recently I've been looking at photos here done with 28 mm lenses while I decide which one I'd like to try for my M6. Oddly enough, I keep picking shots that where done with the darn 28mm T* on a G2. Go figure.

I'll agree- shoot it again. I too have M's & the G2, and after that M VF the G can be a disappointment in that department, but it has a real place in my kit. Flash work is so much simpler for me with the G, and lacking any M wide glass I find the 21 and 28 on there the most. I also like the G as a top-notch point & shoot of sorts- take it hiking, etc.

The lenses really are good, and the ZM glass is more expensive than the G stuff was. My G 90 outperforms the Leica one, and when I want something long I reach for that one the most.

I'm about to embark on a similar route that Joe has just taken, some re-alignment of the kit to better get what I'm seeing, but I can't see dropping any of the Contax gear except maybe the 35- the one lens I never really got into of the lot. Nothing can top the ASPH 'cron 35 for what I shoot.

I shot 810 for a long time, and when the RF became the way I needed to make the pictures I wanted I never once considered selling off any of that gear- I know I'll be back to it one of these days. Perhaps the closet is ok for a while, I'd suggest waiting a while longer- I know from experience that selling something can lead to regrets, and getting back into it can be a money losing proposition.

I've sold my M5, Bessa R2, Modified M3 with M4 finder (This one I really regret selling), but I have my original M3 to keep me happy.

What is your opinion? I'm going to Thailand in a few days for a week and I'm currently thinking of taking my M6 with 50mm, 28mm, 15mm lens. I've thought about taking the G2, but the lenses are not as fast as my leica and CV lenses. Any thought?

If you've got film M's, I suggest you sell your G2. I recently streamlined my setup to where I have one film body and one digital body. Now I no longer have a 'nagging' feeling about gear I don't use anymore. Set yourself free!

I sold off my Henry Scherer-serviced Contax IIIa because I was seduced by medium format. So now I'm #68 on Henry's waiting list for a Contax IIa. But I recently benefitied from Joe's decision to focus on the "M" mount and now have a lovely IIa in my possession.

But your situation is different situation. Unlike a G2, a perfectly functioning Contax is very hard to find. So I'd be inclinded to sell the G2. You could easily buy back in later. And there are a few nice lenses available in the "M" mount. Granted, they will cost you more than the Zeiss "G" lenses.
