thinking of the x-pro1

P.s. The psychologist in me thinks changing cameras is really just an excuse to do some more bag shopping.

as much as i am enjoying the nikon dslrs, they really don't suit me...not in the long term...on the other hand i would have to sell the whole kit, 2 bodies and 5 lenses to get one fuji with 1 lens...seems so unbalanced...

actually, i'm not in a big rush to get the fuji...and have been wondering if i could last till the next model comes out.
if i smarten up and get my diet in proper form perhaps my eyes might improve a bit too...i'm pretty sure it's connected to rising blood sugar levels.
i might sell off the nikon kit slowly...i have interest in one of the bodies and a lens so far...

Hi Joe,

I've been through several cameras, but still hang on to that 28 Ultron I bought from you several moons ago. Now it is still drawing nice images on the XP1. A truly versatile camera that knows how to handle both the old and new.

Best,
Carl

That's quite a story, John.

Although I use the M8 much less now that I have the XP1, I'm very reluctant to sell it. Since there is a lot less money tied up in that than in an M9, it's easier for me to keep it.

Well, it was Areality who got me into this ;-)

I had a M8 and had no business upgrading to a M9. I am a hobbyist, not a professional. I'd probably still have the M8 but the urge to get the best digital Leica beckoned me. The M9 full frame images were better but the shooting experience wasn't all that improved. Then the squinting got worse. Not that I cannot still manually focus but having auto focus back with my main camera has been very rewarding so far.

So Mobilexile, the X-Pro1 isn't perfect but I can't fault Fuji for getting most of it right. I am not claiming it to be a replacement for an M9. I am enjoying it though and haven't really missed the Leica experience. The X-pro1 is pretty close in its own way, at least by my standards.

One pet peeve I share with Trevor are the size of the X-series lenses. Great glass but that 60mm is a biggin.

The x100 is like a hexar af and the xp1 is more like digital equivalent to contax g2. Fuji even used the same initial 3 lenses in their release. Xp1 lens road map shows the 23mm coming next year. A 21 on the road map for later this year. There are third party vendors for m to x mount already. Fuji is promising their own m mount adapter later this year.

So it gets down to what your preferred lens and what timeframe u want to move away from the Nikon dslrs. And also your proffered camera body style.

LOL! I guess that was before I went and sold my apo asph crons!

And I have to agree with you about the lens size. A sharp-across-the frame yet compact lens is the one thing that Areality would really like in order to be able to easily use the XP1 for ultralight backpacking!

An interesting thread. There is also John Mabelsound's admission that he sold all of his film gear. Missed that one, too!

"Ch-ch-changes..."

Joe, paleo diet. Especially if you're a diabetic. If you do a bit of research on google for diabetic experiences with the paleo style diet, you'll find a whole heap of info. Well worth the time.

would i be completely bonkers if i sold the nikon kit and bought a black x100?

(and a new tv to boot!)

I'll add, I'm shooting with the x100 now, alongside a contax G1. In 2 months time I'll be making the grand decision wether to buy the 5d mkIII or an x-pro1 as my main digital camera. Whatever decision I make, I won't be selling the x100. It's too small, and too ideal as a carry-around, or party camera. The x-pro1 is quite a bit bigger.

Ergonomically, the x100 is my ideal daily carry.

I continue to be surprised that more people aren't marveling at this. It really does feel like a digital reincarnation of the G system. Maybe it's bcause not many people ever owned a G2?

I decided not to buy anything before next Photokina, but all the comments I read about this camera are making it difficult not to change idea...
