I once cross-threaded the lid on the tank. I only noticed when I tried to pour out the pre-soak water and it came pouring out all over my hands. Resetting the lid luckily did not cause any fogging of the film.

Sometimes I go on autopilot and forgot what I was doing while doing it: how many minutes has it been? Did I or did I not fix it yet? Did I dilute the D76 or is this full strength? What is in this bottle? Etc.

One of the "arm" on my changing bag has lost it's rubber tension. So I always wear a black sweater's sleeve, then put my hand through the loose "arm" and fold the sweater over the opening to prevent light leaks.

Were your scenario to have happened, I could simply pull my hand out of the sweater sleeve, reach for the tank, and re-insert my hand (with the tank) through the sleeve and continue as usual.

worst experienc ewith changing bag
film jammed in camera, took out changing bag, because it was very sunny put a coat on top of it and proceeded to fix film. suddenly got slapped across the face by a rather mannish lookin woman!!!!
She brougt a policemen over and started acusing me of all sorts of unspeakable things, kept calm, extrcted camera and showed police man the problem, he fully understood.
woman started to leave still mouthing off, policeman arrested her and she was charged and convicted of assault, I got £500 for defomation of character.
It would have been easyto panic though.
She was from some weird fundementalist church.
should have hung a label on me explaining my actions, I hate to think what the reaction today would be!!

I made a similar mistake once. I loaded the film onto the reel, put the reel into the tank, and only then realized that I had not put the lid into the changing bag. Somehow, I managed to grab the lid with my hand inside of the changing bag. If I recall correctly, I managed to bunch the changing bag around the open tank so that I could safely extract my hands. Then I grabbed the lid and took the whole assembly into a dark closet where I could safely put my hands and the lid back into the bag and put the cover on the tank.

When I finished I silently thanked the salesman at Adorama for convincing me that I needed a large changing bag. 🙂

We ALL make mistakes. My recent mistake was not locking the funnel top of a Patterson tank that had 3 rolls of 120 and 54 oz. of developer in it. After the 11 min developing time, I took off the lid and turned over the tank. Much to my surprise, the funnel top and my film came pouring out with the developer. I quickly shoved everything back inside and finished processing. Surprisingly only 1 frame was ruined and several are fogged a tiny bit, but seem usable. After 30 years of this, it's still live and learn.

Well, THAT does it! Now even before I've processed my first roll of film, I have to wonder "is my changing bag big enough?", might I be arrested using my changing bag in public? Me I'm going back to the "This film processing is SO easy" threads.
