wait, i think i have it sorted.... it's slighty less loose... lol
EDIT.... fixed!!
very scary at the 'careful' but forceful pressure on those tiny clips, but it's sorted. The lens now has a nice (though a little rough feeling) locking motion. Finally I can comfortably change aperture! The lens won't unlock unless I want it too

Congratulations! FWIW, I usually just leave the Sonnar extended as it doesn't project very much from the camera anyway.

I know it won't make any difference to photo's, other than make it an easier to use lens.
Now it's fixed, I CAN leave it extended

Been reading this thread about the locking claws on the collapible Sonnar. Mine also is very easy to unlock. But my question is this. My lens says: Carl Ziess Jena # 2039037 Sonnar 1:2 f/=50mm. (it is still uncoated BTW)
would ths be a wartime lens as mentiined in your post?
My Grand Father bought a Contax III (prewar) with that lens on it. And he sent the camera to Germany to have the PC Sync modifacation done so it take the standard PC cord without Ziess adapters. They replaced the top plate and moved the Camera SN to the rewind knob..

furcafe said:Actually, practically all of the collapsible 50/2 Sonnars available on the market are uncoated, & neither branch of the Zeiss family produced collapsible Sonnars after WWII (although Jena did continue w/a version of the collapsible Tessar). Thus, any genuine "T" coated collapsible 50/2 Sonnar is a rarity as they were made in small quantities between 1938 & 1945. There were quite a few regular uncoated Sonnars that were coated in the aftermarket by small optical shops (I have 1 of those w/bright blue coating), but I don't think they will categorically outperform a properly-constructed Jupiter. I would 2nd Rover's recommendation of waiting for a good post-WWII Zeiss-Opton or Carl Zeiss 50/1.5 Sonnar (or the much rarer wartime Carl Zeiss Jena version).

May contain traces of nut
If it says Ziess it's definitely a fake, the company is called Zeiss.arbib said:Been reading this thread about the locking claws on the collapible Sonnar. Mine also is very easy to unlock. 2.000.000 through 2.800.000 should be 1937 to 1942 according to a list floating around on photo.net.

It's a pre-war lens, from around 1937.
