Thoughts on a second M body

I was going to make the same suggestion as dogman. There is alot to be said for bodies with exactly the same controls & different finish (black/ chrome) to identify different viewfinder mag/ film types.

On the other hand if you just fancy something a bit different, add my name to the list of Konica Hexar proponents. I really enjoy the slightly wider viewfinder angle (0.6 if memory serves correctly) particularly for 28mm and 35mm lenses.

There is indeed, yes. In the past I've toted two Pentax Spotmatics (an SP500 and an SP1000 - actually identical), and for SLRs I now use an OM1 and an OM2 (if I have them both with me I set the OM2 to manual metering and that makes the two effectively the same). Having two that operate identically has definitely saved me from missing shots (I know that from the many occasions that I've had two different cameras with me and have missed shots). I have to admit I do quite fancy an M4-P now, but I know there'd be times when I forget which camera I have in my hand and be perplexed when the meter LEDs don't come on 🙂

I hadn't realised it has a wider VF, and that's a nice feature - I like the 35 frame on the M6, but I do think the 28 frame would benefit from a slightly wider VF. Just one thing - is there any problem fitting very deep lenses (like my J-12, for example), or collapsing collapsible lenses, on a Hexar RF?

Sorry - unable to advise on the lenses you mention. There is a Konica HR section to this forum where you may be able to find a related topic or pose the same question in a new thread.

Slightly off topic, but one of my favourite cameras of all time was/ is my OM4Ti - diminutive size with a fantastic spot meter which averages the spot meter points you select. I highly recommend it (I think all Ti models came with the revised circuitry which overcame the battery eating habits suffered by 0M4 and my OM2 Spot Program !!). If Olympus hadn't abandoned the SLR market in the 1990's, I doubt I ever would have left the brand.

Oh yes, the OM4Ti really is a beauty - I get tempted every time I see one on eBay 🙂. And I think you're right - I think the Ti models did all have the revised circuitry. (I had an OM2SP briefly - cheap from eBay - but I resold it quite quickly because it a bit worn and very noisy).

Yep, I can confirm that the om2sp feels really cheap and fragile compared to the om4ti. Really surprising considering how similar they look. Particularly film advance lever and shutter release - worlds apart. Peter
