was out and about today and found an olympus xa2 in the thrift store for $7

needs new seals, but seems to work needs batteries

what are the differences between the xa and the xa2

it does have the flash as well

The XA has rangefinder focus and an aperture-priority automatic shutter. The XA2 as you can tell has zone focusing; the shutter and aperture are program-controlled and adjusted together. Both excellent cameras.

I've read that according to some the XA2 lens is actually a little sharper than its XA counterpart, at least when it's in range. I don't know whether this is true, but the XA2 is quick, sharp and silent.

The XA2 can also do fairly long auto exposures, about 4~8 seconds if I remember right. Of course that means you have to steady the camera on a solid surface.

Funny coincidence. I found an Xa at the thrift store a couple of weeks ago. I got it for $3 it still had the original box, case, flash and instructions. New batteries and it is ready to go. Great little camera.

Hi,

As has been said the XA is a CRF and the with "A" mode only and the XA2 is zone focussing and "P" mode only.

The XA2 relies on the DoF from the 35mm and f/3.5 lens and focusses well when the subject is at just the right point or the aperture is small meaning 200 ASA or more film is best.

You can get the best out of the XA2 by memorising the three points it focusses on. I think you'll find them here:

The page on the website it takes you to can look odd. Us old hands realise that you have to click on the big red shutter button. If not then the XA2 is very popular and a search will find the set distances.

Regards, David

Great Find

Great find nikonsguy!
Found this at a thrift shop during a road trip. Even has instruction manual.
After exercising the shutter speeds, and tinkering with the mirror, started working. Slow speeds are somewhat working. To say some aren't.
