Driving west on I-40 in New Mexico between Tucamcari and Santa Rosa, I saw signs for Exit 284, which seemed to be a road to nowhere, so I got off the freeway to see what was there. It was just a short road, part of old Route 66, running along the modern Interstate with a few abandoned buildings. This one was a restaurant. There was more graffiti on the side and back of the building too.

Another great one, Chris.

Interesting find, and nicely executed photo.

The artist put a lot of effort into this - brings up a lot of questions. Why did he/she (OK, probably a he) create this, who did they think would see it? This sounds like a really out of the way spot.

Randy,

you should see what they painted on the back of the building...THAT one will have you asking questions! I'm hoping to have it up tomorrow.

Here's the other one. I've been told now that these were actually painted by an internationally known graffiti artist named David Choe. The whale in the second photo is something he has painted many, many times (with different messages each time). Interesting to find something like that literally in the middle of nowhere!
