I don't think any changes are needed. When I stumbled upon this site I figured I would be in the minority. I agree it's more balanced in real life than on line.

When the polling results here show that maybe 97% are dusty old farts, then change kinda is needed.

Being a father of a quiver full, I'm quite certain that I do have XY chromosomes. OTOH, witnessing my oldest daughter's puberty is such intense that when I have belly ache I'm considering that perhaps my first period might be imminent...

"If I can count the change in your pocket, you better use the coins to call a tailor." The Most Interesting Man in the World

VERY tempted to choose to answer the Barbara Walters question, "IF you could be a tree, which one would you choose?" as "Telephone pole. Plain, simple, no branches to worry about. Okay... yes... there's that bit about 20,000 KWH's, but hey.... light'em up is what I say." So yes, I get the loneliness thing, the on-line male locker room thing, but I'm not sure what we can do about it. As for me, I'm busy watching the snow and counting the birds sitting on my electric lines, and wondering whether it means my "branches" are just longer now. that they're wired. Re-arrange it, and you almost have weird. Weird, huh?

I get that part. Just not sure what your point was?

Point being only girls at RFF sure do offer interesting (to me at least) stuff.

Btw I think ornate wrasse is another woman here who posts interesting stuff. Maybe the women of RFF are a grade above a lot of folks

I shoot more regularly with women photographers than men. I think they have better things to do than **** around on forums. 😉

Oh, Peter I find so many beautiful FB pages on the visual arts. I don’t use the site for social media but look for pages that express my interests. You can find dozens of them. Just on Leica I have either joined or liked 17 pages.

I am inclined to agree with those who ask "What does it matter?"

At one level, I personally would like to see more women here but the bottom line is that this forum is about photography not gender politics and it is up to women to join if they wish to. If they do join they will be more than welcome - so long of course, that their participation is mainly about photography not about an opportunity to argue gender politics - we see enough of that everywhere else on the internet, in the media, in politics etc etc etc and is sucks noodles and would kill the site.

Besides if this were, let's say, a site about cars and hot rods, would the gender mix be any different to what it is here now? You see, isn't it clear that the gender mix of members all depends on the nature and purpose of the interest being pursued. Some women enjoy pursuits that have traditionally been regarded as male but many don't - which is exactly why those pursuits are regarded as traditionally male. Not because women are being excluded but because they tend not to be interested. Bottom line - gender is, or should be, irrelevant.

I would hazard a guess that a large percentage of members feel much the same way as me.
