Hi People

I've been floating around on here for a while and have finally taken plunge and bought myself a Bessa R (My 1st rangefinder and my 1st film camera!!!!!). It feels like a real camera (It feels even more stable than my Canon D350) Anyway, I'll post some photo's once figure out how to load the film heehee. My digital work can be found here http://www.fotothing.com/Samdj1210/

Welcome aboard Sam!!! 🙂

You'll have fun with the Bessa R. Make sure you don't catch a case of Darksiditis because once you do; there's no known cure. (Mind you, Joe will tell you that a good dose of Canon P will do the trick). 😀

Cheers

i did the exatcally the same thing like you, started my photography interest with a Canon 350D then moved into film with a R2a.(there is a Olympus XA2 and a Olympus SP in between though)
the Canon 350D is a super nice DSLR, but to me there's an unexplainable force existed in the film-based rangefinders. they make me feel more like an artist rather than a camera equipment geek.

i have seen your gallery. do you use the kit lens? or the 17-85IS, or something else.

nice to have you here, Sam.. I did the same thing.. started out with a Nikon D70 and ended up stepping backward.. Yashica GSN.. Kiev 4a.. Contax IIa.. Rolleiflex.. Ikon Nettar folder.. Canonet.. Vivitar 35ES.. Contax T.. and finally Leica M3.. along with a half dozen lenses

now I just need a decent cheap MF camera and I'll be set for a while

Brett,
I warn you not to go there!!! A cheap m/f camera, let me think...how many have I owned. I'm down to the Pentacon 6th that Rolf-Dieter souped up with an advance monitor, a new focusing screen and almost every viewfinder they make, including the stovepipe. The options abound and the lenses are a thing of beauty. See what I mean. And this is inaddition to the Mamyia Seker 330f with multiple lenses, and the folders I have. Yikes. I'm rambling and so will you if you open that door!

Sam,
Welcome to the greatest bunch of photogs on the net! I can say that without reservation.

Sam,

Welcome to the forum and have fun with the Bessa! There are tons of interesting lenses made at least from the 1930's up until today you can mount on it ... Have fun!

Bravo sAM,
I never had a digital camera but I had and (sorry) many SLR, manual and not. I came by curiousity to a Bessa R and now it's the camera I always have with me ! ciao.

Welcome, Sam. You've purchased a fine RF camera to begin your education in film images. You've also come to the best photography forum on the internet so you've done very well.

It's good to have you here and we look forward to seeing some images from your R. Which lens did you get with it?

Welcome to the forum Sam.

There are a lot of bods here that either have a Bessa or have used them to very good effect. The CV lenses are also very good, much better than you would think for the cost.

Have fun!

Welcome Sam,

I also have the Bessa R with the J-8. I love that camera. I don't much care for digital, though I do use it for work and the occasional record session with family. I love the Bessa and I love film. Welcome and I hope you don't acquire that awful GAS problem. I am now on a steady diet of fowl language and dirty looks from my wife whenever I mention another camera. So far that has helped, but the itch is still there.

I use the 10-22mm for my wide shots and I have a 70-200mm for most of my other shots. I have taken some pretty good photos with the kit lens, I don't think it's as bad as everyone says.
