I borrowed a Paterson Multi Reel 5 for the next weeks.

I usually make my developments with small tanks for two 35mm rolls or one medium format roll. I always use the rotatory shaft achieving satisfactory results.

May I use the same technique with a bigger tank, always considering correct dilution and chemical quantities?

Any advices and recommendations using this type of tank, will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Inversion always works best for me. Using the centre rod causes uneven development. The plastic reels must be completely dry before you load them.

I don't think that, no matter what tips I have for it, it'll ever listen 😀

I agree with Victor's tips for using any developer tank. The little "shaft" that goes in supposedly helps for dislodging bubbles, when you don't want to rap the tank yourself. I rap it within the first minute of having poured chemicals, specially developer and fixer.

Patterson`s instructions call for use of the twist stick for initial agitation only. After that inversion. For the reason stated above.

Allow for longer pour in & out times.

Keep the old reel & tank or a paper safe handy in case the new reels are contaminated with photoflow and will not load.

I personally would avoid new equipmment with anything important.

I use the twist stick for the first 30 seconds as Paterson instructs. Thereafter I agitate periodically by inverting. So far, so good I think.
