Great pics john! I didn't even have 2 feet of space in front of me to frame a shot! That and bringing an RZ67 to a crowded place = suicide.
 
Trev thanks for offering to host a walkabout. Those suggestions all sound interesting. I especially like the 'stuff ourselves silly' part.

Tsukiji would be great. I've heard though that they've cordoned off the areas to tourists and photographers, as it's become too disruptive to the fishmongers. Is that true or do you have a way to get access?

Harajuku and Akihabara are cool options as well.
 
i was checking with a colleague at work, and the auctions on saturdays are iffy. As in, they don't do auctions every saturday so we'd have to try our luck, appearing there at around 0500-530 in the morning, depending on whether the train lines operate from where you stay.

As for stuffing ourselves silly, i find that the food in tokyo is actually quite cheap, considering the quality you get. Of course, you can't compare the amount to costco sized servings in socal. :p

So saturday it is. Hmm..... as for equipment, what are you guys gonna bring? (we imposing any equipment guidelines?) hehe

what about 5am? Is it too much for me to expect a pickup at the Tsukiji metro stop on your black paint tsukiji-cart? The silent one of course! :)
 
Unfortunately I won't make it as I'll be running from the ship (Chikyu) to Narita (flight home) with a quick stop in Shinjuku to buy some Rollei Retro.

I'll catch up with you Chut at Jay's Studio one Saturday night.
 
Well if anyone's around, I'll be back in Tokyo over Golden Week (for the non Japanese residents thats more or less the first week of May) :D Bit of work and to see my 9yo daughter but always time to shoot and shop (Need to find a +1 diopter for my F3HP this trip).

Tokyo really is an awesome place. I've been lucky enough to spend a week last july and was pretty impressed by how japanese people knows photography. I saw a lot of blad users, rolleiflex shooters and leica enthusiast. I was able to buy a Nikon 28 TI for a bargain in a little "nikon" shop in shinjuku... I never saw that much Nikon F3s ;) Damn, I miss Tokyo

Will you find the Leica M in this picture ? ;)

How about meeting at the ticket gates at Tsukiji Station on the Hibiya subway line.

The earliest I can get to Tsukiji Station is 6.00am. How about everyone else? I can check for you if you let me know your station.

Gotta get there early to see the action!
 
Trev-san: doubtful for me. If I do go it will be on Sunday afternoon, but might have a 50% chance to be there next saturday morning (18 apr). Those fishes deserve new rolls of Portra 400VC.

I'd like to see a group hanging around the small ticketing gates, everyone with rangefinders around their neck!! Someone snap me that group photo!

I might not be able to make it at 6am as my first train is at 530, earliest i can be there is 630. (sorry).

what abouts everyone?
