There is curently a limit of twenty images per day for paying members. If I had known that I should not upload as many images I would never have done so. I will gladly give Jorge permission to remove all of my images from the gallery.

I think, Raid, that it makes sense to split the uploads into a hosting area and a "showoff" 😉 area. That way your upload limit would not be curtailed, but you would have to decide which ones are most worthy.

i doubt that jorge will change his policy in this matter.

for me, this is a no win situation as no matter what is decided someone will not like the solution.

i rarely post pics here because they usually get little or no attention/comments.

if i was really motivated, i would use my blogs more and ask for people to view them and offer comments.
that would be my suggestion to all, start a blog and flog it.

when i am in the mood and have time, this is what i do to look at photos in the gallery...

...Recent Photos 1 day 7 days 14 days all...

this is atop the categories and i usually hit 1 day to view what has been posted that day.
very simple, no search necessary, almost effortless.

First off, hands up, I'm guilty of uploading mutiple images - uploaded 10 on Sunday. Did think about splitting the upload, but I don't have a lot of time at the moment. This was my first upload for some considerable time.

A few comments on previous posts.

I don't upload everything I shoot. I upload what I AM HAPPY for others to see. If the viewer considers them snapshots then that's the viewers issue not mine. I've just checked out the gallery and a well respected member had about 11 images on display - I personally didn't consider them snapshots and judging by some of the comments there are others who would agree with me. So, my point is, multiple uploads don't necessarily equate to poor quality and uploading only one doesn't necessarily equate to quality.

There are 12 slots for recently posted images and at busy times an image is gone from the front page in under an hour. The issue is more to do with the number of thumbnails visible on the front page of the gallery. I don't have an answer to this, but this is a more important issue to tackle if you want to be able to see recently (e.g. today) posted images at a glance without the bother of going to page 2,3 .............. There have been 89 images posted today. That equates to 5 per hour (approx), so today, on average, one image would have been visible for just over 2 hours.

I don't disagree with limiting the number of images uploaded at any one time and I will apply my own limit in future as a matter of etiquette.

There should probably be a separate upload area for those who want their images critiqued by others. My guess is that this would attract a lower number of images (judging by the number of posts asking for a rating).

In using the tools this way, the number of uploaded images doesn't make a difference, just means I have to look through more *shrug*

There is a limit per day to the uploads. The moste recent gallery was showing 12 pictures I have increased that number to 20.

Joe, in most of cases, when you're changing things, you can't fulfill everbody; that doesn't mean you cannot change things. Besides, it's not a no win game, since some can be satisfied with the solution.

Anyway, I totally agree w/ Keith.
I wouldn't have pointed out this problem, but as it came up I have my opinion on the subject: most of us (with or without the three stars) submit only 3/4/5 images that we consider good enough to be seen. Now, a few ones think that their whole rolls deserve to be seen ... they paid for that, they have their stars ... who can do something against this excessive behaviour?

I think the 5 images per day rule was a pretty good rule. It makes people think carefully about their submissions.

The "recent" photos links are very small, hidden, and hard to see. You have options for going to 1 day, 7 days, or 14 days 🙂 I linked to 1 day.

At the risk of being rather subjective, if you knocked off all the DSLR and digital point&shoot shots from this RFF gallery it might be a little more manageable and enjoyable to peruse....and while I'm at it, the posters who can't be bothered to help the rest of us out by giving out some basic info on how they attained the shot shouldn't be surprised if people can't be bothered to comment.

Very difficult to police. There is a gallery for non RF images which should be used.

Thanks. What concerns me is the emergence of an elitist attitude. One of the best things about RFF is that it could never be labelled as elitist. Eccentric possibly and ocassionally sparky, but not elitist. I have no argument with being a bit more sensible about how much anyone posts at any one time, but if a member wants to post a whole roll without self editing, then, that's their prerogative. Unless you're in possession of a Pulitzer or are held in high regard in the photography world and recognised as an expert then I think we should all be very careful about being derogatory about others images. Glass houses and stones spring to mind.

If I was able to produce five worthy images a year I'd be very happy. The habit of posting everything in your album is devaluing the site and making it less enjoyable. Even with the extended gallery, currently one person dominates with FOURTEEN shots.

Maybe the section that advertises the most prolific posters should be deleted as it may act as an incentive to some to post their entire output.

The last few times I posted an image I noticd this. There are 9 slots to display shots in the gallery section, and in under a half hour my shots were nowhere to be seen. I have seen this happen a lot more recently; when I first started posting at RFF I got actual comments on images. Now there is no chance for anybody to see them unless they go digging. And who has time to go digging through all these almost identical snapshots that keep flooding the gallery?

my 2 cents...

for me, i like seeing what everyone else is doing and checking in on certain discussions. however, i do feel bombarded when i check in and see a ton of pictures from the same person and they all have the same look. i find that boring. what excites me most is checking in on the posts and seeing a variety of thumbnails from various photographers.

luckily this doesn't seem to happen very often. most of the people on this forum are good at editing and selecting just a few rather than posting every shot from an entire roll.

if i want to be bombarded by photos i'll go to pbase or photo.net

another thought that i'm sure will cause some discussion: is there really a need to post non rf pictures? i mean, this is mainly a rf forum. (admittedly, one of my whopping four uploaded pictures is from a diana toy camera and i would happily take it down if the consensus was to stay with just rf pictures)

Jorge, why not decrease the post rate to 1 post per day. That is 7 per week, that is already a lot of material.

Gid, this wouldn't be elitist at all. An example of elitism would be if I said that my stuff is better than someone else's and should therefore get more air time. I have not and would not say anything of the sort! I am for an egalitarian policy! But one can be egalitarian and allow everyone 20 posts per day, or one can be egalitarian and allow everyone 1 post per day. Which alternative do you honestly think will maintain the quality of the posts and the depth of the comments and critique?

I think that being egalitarian means that everyone has an equal probability of having their photo seen by others. Now, this is a simple issue of probability. If I post one shot and Mr. X posts 10, and all of those shots are seen in the form of some tiny thumbnail, well... :bang:

I have an idea: post one image with a left-pointing arrow. Then post the photo that you wish for people to notice. Then post another photo with a right-pointing arrow... 😀

What about ths idea: one can upload x number of photos per day but only one shows up in the "recent photos" thumbnails? "x" = 20 or 5 or whatever. As the owner of the photos, the poster picks one as the representative pic of the group of images. This wouldn't overwhelm the "recent photos" and, I think, would give all of us a spot on the gallery front page.
The other thought I have about this; make the number of "random photos" thumbnails equal the number of thumbnails of "recent photos".
