Steven, if you saw some of the posts from the $7000 question series, you might find yourself in your shallow grave of despair, but fear not. You can create magic if you just do it. I myself haven't jumped over to the digital rangefinder for some of those same doubtful feelings, but if I had, I would just move forward and use the tool at hand to create a different genre of work.
I recall my first digital camera and not liking it but it helped me to be a better photographer. As you are in Sapporo, just photograph the hell out of your town. The only person for the worst is your lab and your film seller.

As an amateur, my photos have improved when I started using the m8. I traded my much loved m6 but the digital is faster to process and I can do it on the run in every hotel room, as long as I bring my laptop. That said I miss some of the romance in film. But if I want romance, I should watch with my wife a movie of her choice. And I like the noise of my m8 when shooting BW at iso 1250/2500. Looks a bit like film to me.
And for a digital camera the m8 is one of the best in terms of uncluttered menus & simple old fashioned/ old school use. that prevents me from fiddling to much and keeps me more focused on making the picture.
You didn't sell your soul afaik but it will take time to get fully used and addapted to using a digital (cropped) camera. Just keep on using it!
