Travelling - what do you do with the cameras you're NOT using?

Keep it simple :)

Keep it simple :)

Sounds like this is more of a photo vacation then a normal family vacation.

In general, I like to keep it simple on vacation..less is better.

I will admit when I was younger, I took everything including the kitchen sink (worst load was baby linhof plus 3 lenses and slr w/ 2 lenses backpacking in Yosemite).

These days, since I switched to digital all the way...2 camera max and no extra lenses
- city vacation - just bring the Panasonic lx100 and Ricoh GR
- photo vacation like Yosemite - Sigma DP0 and 2

In the old days, I used to leave extra equipment in the hotel safe. These days, I tend to carry everything w/ me..

Enjoy vacation time,
Gary

Hi Gary, and thanks so much. I hear you with the LF gear - my other son and I carted around a Tachihara (sp?) 4X5 with attendant lenses, film holders etc on another trip to America (the Southwest) a few years ago. Thing I remember most is we were always being the subject of everyone's photos (you're at Mesa Verde and you're photographing us? Really?).

I agree less is better. I could happily do with just one body and a 35mm lens but I know there will be situations when I'd like to have a 90mm, other times a 28mm or a 50mm. So I'll take that extra gear and I'll be happier. As you say, it is largely a photo vacation (we're only talking a week for that part). I'll be interested (and will report back) what the mix will be like by the time all is done and dusted. Will I have used the 90mm at all? Maybe not, but I'd still rather have it, because when 90's the focal length you want, it's pretty hard to get it with 35mm. If it was a family trip, it would almost certainly be one camera and a 35mm lens.
