Trent Parke's Minutes to Midnight

Steidl didn't answer my email either...I guess that's part of their "exclusivity." Damn artists and artisans! ;)

I got my copy from BookDepository...very happy and excited to receive it. I will say, however...the price dropped from $47.95 US to $34.95 US while I was waiting for my copy to be delivered. I emailed BookDepository for a price adjustment, and they said sorry...I agreed to pay that price! (no Amazon are they)

Great book...my favorite photo book so far. I think if everyone had a copy there would be a run on Tri-X again.

Thanks for the heads-up and rave review; finally got me off the fence, and before the Canadian dollar sinks anymore, I ordered one.

Is there anywhere in Canada that anybody has found this book? Checked Amazon and Chapters, and I know the local guys here don't have it (unless they stocked it very recently).

I don't think so, but Book Depository has free shipping, if you can wait (not a day or two like Amazon). My total cost was CAD$39.56!

I received my copy from Amazon today. Some great shots in there but overall, I must admit, I was slightly disappointed with it.

How so? With the print quality? Or just the images themselves?

The print quality was fine. The paper used was good. It's just that some of the pictures look rather ordinary whilst others are extraordinary. This is the first TP book that I have bought having previously seen his work in isolation, one or two pictures at a time.

I had a very different reaction to you Monz, I thought that while there are some images that aren't as strong as other, the book as a whole is outstanding. Going through the book the first time was a pretty intense experience, it was the same intensity as when I leafed through Robert Frank's The Americans for the first time. They both sucked me in! I still pick up The Americans every now and then even though I've owned it for a while and practically remember every image. I got MtM early this year and I've been doing the same. I remember TP saying that many images from that period were influenced by Sigur Ros' music, and I must say that their albums from that period (Agaetis Byrjun and ()) fit really well.

It's easy going overboard with praise for Minutes to Midnight but not in the least unwarranted if you do. Parke has created something for the ages, or, perhaps more appropriately, something for the end of times. It is very lucky for us (the ones who were not fast enough first time round) he had Steidl do another edition, I doubt there was a significant profit for him. The trend is to do one edition, and, if successful, let it climb to collector stratosphere and then leave it at that.

This, along with only a handful more, is a desert island photobook for me too. Here's hoping Dream/Life will at some point get the Steidl treatment as well.

Thanks; the free shipping is nice, I may have to try Book Depository out. Did you have to pay any import duties upon arrival?

No duties. The book arrived yesterday, which was the 10th day after I placed the order, and 6 days after it was shipped. Definitely happy I bought it. Thanks to everyone here who recommended it.

One of the best photography books I have purchased this year! I don't know how many times I've looked at it...Really great work. The book printing a is top notch as well..
