Carsten is right... it's become overpriced.
I have the original and it's a nice lens for character.
It's true some have abused that character and now that is what the lens is known for.... can't blame the lens.
The look at wide open is glowing and dreamy... it has a place for portraits which is where I've used it a fair bit.
Here are the few fuji images I have to share online (XT1) plus, one film image. I have posted them before.
First 2 are near MFD. The third is at f4 and mid range. It looks pretty nice. Last is film at W/O.
About the price. Back in '07 or maybe '08 I bought a lot of 5 or 6 of these from an ebay seller for around $200.
Kept the best one for myself and sold the rest for $50- $75 each.
It's stunning to see them at $1500. It's a very simple lens in an alu. tube.
The aperture is beautifully round. It gets sharp like most triplets stopped down and yes, at wide open it's a bit wild.
I like it wide open at longer distances where it has a really dreamy glow especially on film (last shot).
