I don`t know what I`d have done if confronted with the horrible situation that you had to deal with.
I`m begining to think that taking pictures of horses is actually much safer.

Yes - that's why so many people have resorted to portraying their cats. 😉

I've only recently discovered my passion for 'street photography' -- some months ago.

I use four different 'techniques' depending on what seems suited:
- the tourist method: acting like I'm photographing something else
- the ask-and-chat-then-shoot method
- the hip shot method (with me it's a belly shot method, having my camera hanging round my neck and my thumb on the shutter release), and
- the "taking pictures is the most natural thing in the world and I'll go on shooting no matter what" method.

The by far most good photographs I get from my belly shots, and that method is also the most fun to me. I guess it's a bit like what hunters must feel.

Oh, and no, no troubles with people so far. But I'm the friendly type and easy to get along with -- and I'm quite tall...

well perhaps there will be more respect for cats if I give an example of what happened in just the past week here - it turns out that one or both of our cats may be serial killers.

Prior to the past week, we've only had a couple of dead birds and a lot of bugs and insects eaten or attacked, we did have a dead mouse, but we think it may have been a "gift" from a neighboring killer cat.

Anyways, there was a freshly dead mouse within feet of our deck steps, and when I went to clean it up, the cat posed for some photos with the mouse, possibly his kill, but no one saw it, and then moved over about 10 feet and was pushing something around.

Well that was a dead bird, another one.

Coincidence? dumped bodies? Framed or setup? Who knows, but we sleep with one eye open now ...

I've shot dealers on street corners, and dealers in Porches, if you want to do this, go without a camera first, talk to them, assure them your not a cop 1st, then outline why you want to take photos of them. Let them decide if its a good enough reason, most times they will decide yes. Remember marginalised members of society are people too.

That won't work in the US. Try to shoot any dealer and you'll get shot, not with a camera.

Having lived and worked in Los Angeles in a Hispanic/Latino neighborhood I know exactly how to deal with drug dealers, within one week I can usually have free reign of an area to shoot.
