I kinda have to agree with Gabriel.. while the J8 I used to own was no slouch, it didn't have the crispness that my Sonnar 50/1.5 has.. altho they do have the same general look to them.. but it's pretty easy for me to pick out the Sonnar images in my portfolio

I'm thinking it's a matter of individual lenses in Pherdi's camera bag.. but at the same time I'm very tempted to pick up another J8 to do another comparison

ok some jupiters are very bad, some are excellent... everybody seems to forget that the russians were in space before the others... even if they had some loss on the way ;-)

At one time (around the late 50th, early 60th) the russian and east-german were at the top of the photo engineering (special for the optical part...) and they produced for the masses... making photography an accessible hobby for a lot of people.

this has to be put in perspective, I own a very nice Helios 40/1 prototype serial number (39mm for zenith 85mm f1,5...) and the original russian bill state that it cost 800 roubles in 1958... the cost of a good pair of Ladas...

Well, as I said this is no statistical result. I have only one of each lens.
Also, Gabriel, i don't know what are you talking about since I doid not include a J-3 at all.
I will scan the frames and include all three, okay. And the one who finds the 3 differences can win the prize. 😀
