Ultron 35mm better than 35/1.4 Nokton?

Would go against the tide here too.

I have one and use daily for nearly two years now, it brassed down in my hands. It is an OK lens, but nothing to write home about compared with recent Leica offerings. Flare issues, handling, not very sharp until about f/2.5.
 
I thought I'd re-inflame this thread:

I used to own a V4 35 Summicron, and I thought that lens was lovely. Now I need to replace it, but I can't justify the current prices.

The f/1.4 35mmm Nokton sounds great. Is it a good replacement for a former V4 summi user?

If anything I thought my V4 Summicron was not great wide open, but ideal for wide open people pictures. It's amazing how much better the asph version is at f/2 on technical points.

I've also used the 35mm color-skopar, and I thought it did a great job... though I only used it w/ B&W and mostly grainy stuff. Nice contrast, but a bit slow, and I never saw how it does with color.

I need me a new 35.....
 
I have had both (presently have the 35/1.4) I really miss the IQ on the Ultron 1.7 but I do like the speed of the 1.4.
 
Interesting thread from last year.

I'm keeping my Ultron 35/1.7 until that pre-ASPH Summilux with my name on it floats by.

Which probably means that I'm keeping the Ultron forever :)

In Japan, the 28/3.5 seems readily still available in used stores. I managed to pick up a black one in Fujiya and almost every time I walk in there, there's usually 1 or 2 on sale. I have the chrome 50/2.5, but I've never seen a 3.5 version or even the 28/1.9!

Btw, I recommend the LH-2 hood. You can still get these brand new here in Tokyo.
 
I have not tried the 35 nok 1.4 but would Love to ...if anyone wants to lend me one for a week :p

do have a 35 Ultron which I am Quite Smitten with....even though i really prefer 50mm

in the past i have used a 35 pre asph lux, 35 summaron 2.8

here is the Ultron , Draws Lovely, not to high comntrast

I've always liked the Ultron 35 and believe me, apart from the glow at 1.4, the Summilux pre asph doesn't do anything the Ultron can't.
The Ultron was my 1st RF lens, sold it and got the 'cron asph, sold it and bought an Ultron again then added a v4 'cron and a pre asph 'lux.
I ran a comparison poll using the 3 lenses and before I named them the Ultron was clear winner from the images I posted. Once I'd named them the v4 edged ahead. Put a Leica name on something and it's got to be better eh? ha!
Erik named them correctly I recall, probably due to his ownership of all 3 and being used to what real and not test chart pictures look like with them.
The 'lux is a speciality lens for it's 1.4 look. For me it looks pretty identical from f2 onward as the other two. All three are great lenses and unless you want that 1.4 look or like the investment potential of Leica glass, IMHO stick with the Ultron. My only dislike is the short focus throw compared to the Leica glass which shows up if you are sloppy on focus.
I just sold my 'lux as I don't need it's 1.4 qualities and I'm not using RF at the moment but i'm keeping my Ultron for hopefully a return to RF in the future.
 
Once again I see proof that Ultron 35 is better than Nokton 35/1.4 - right now if you look at the Cameraquest.com "For Sale" page, New Ultron (old stock that was mislabled, according to CQ), is listed at $679, while CV 35/1.4 new sells for $579.
I dont think just being discontinued is a reason for this - if it wasn't as good as it is, Ultron wouldnt be priced so, as it wouldnt sell. Why it was dicontinued? I can ask same question about CV 35/1.2 and 50/1.5 as well. Oh well, I'm just glad I have all those great lenses that I got a while back.
 
I wouldn't say it is better, just different. They couldn't be anymore different in the way they draw.
 
I have neither one. It is good that there exist so many excellent 35mm lenses on the market today. The CV lens line seems to be a great way to get great lenses at prices that are more affordable than corresponding Leica or Zeiss lenses.
