What does flickr do to the photos I upload, they seem to have a colour shift and be over-sharpened, anybody know what it’s doing and why or how I stop it altering them?

Isn't it that flickr is reducing the size of the photos? If you look at the original sized image is the same as the one you uploaded?

The original file is not altered. All the other (smaller) photos are generated by flickr and yes, there may be some sharpening effects. I never noticed a colour shift.

Possibly, but at the size I post here there is an odd colour shift, as if skies look more cyan, and foliage has a Fluorescent look to it, exaggerating a bit maybe but they look different to me

Looking at your Flickr stream, I downloaded your latest photo titled 'South Facing farmhouse Wall, Northwest Kerkyra (Corfu)'

I see that it has the colour profile 'Fuji_DP2_ProAm.icm' embedded.

Before uploading them to Flickr, try converting them to 'sRGB'. See if that makes a difference.

I just googled 'flickr colour profiles' and got a monkey load of hits. Some reading for you Stewart :)

yep Fuji paper on an Agfa machines at a local lab, I searched Google … and on balance I quite like the sky that colour …

I’ll try sRGB and see if that’s better

What browser do you use? This can have an effect too as I use Firefox and have found that it can alter color of an image. My Flickr color problems went away when I changed my settings. Firefox has a color management option that needs to be turned off or is it on........? (You will need to Google it as I cannot recall details). Admittedly this should not affect sharpness but definitely affects color. But in any event you may wish to explore this issue more if you are a Firefox user (not sure about the "other one".)

There are many reasons why it may seem like flickr is "doing a color change", but it's far too complicated to be explained in a simple paragraph that people can read and not ignore to perpetuate a myth/rumour.

If your photograph does not have an s-RGB color profile, some browsers will read it and try to convert. If you are experiencing this with your monitor, you may be the victim of "double-profiling".

Without going into a very long spiel, I recommend you use the "Export for Web" option in Photoshop, which not only converts to sRGB, but also strips any EXIF data (which may sometimes also include any non-sRGB color profile info which some viewers so seemingly-helpfully try to interpret).

If you're using the latest version of Firefox, they've turned on a "feature" where any photos which contain any color profile info, will interpret it and convert to your OS's ... emm... sorry, I'm past the one paragraph that people read.

So: double-profiling. Good luck!

I am entering more words which do not contribute to what I mean to say, but RFF software insists that I add more fluff so that I can post it. Does it help? I hope so. okbaibai
