Hi,
After months of shall i shan't i well today i've gone and done it ordered a used
mint Leica MP from ffordes photographic.

Its a leap of faith in a way having never held a Leica before but after reading all the good things about them on this forum and else where i feel things should turn out ok(fingers crossed).

Which to choose was the sticking point M7, MP, Classic M6 etc.

Just hoping my CV lenes will be ok until funds recover enough to aquire Leica
glass.

The veiwfinder is the x58 type am i right in thinking this is better for 28mm,35mm etc wide end and not so easy to focus on say 75mm and 90mm DOF and all that, i thought this might suite me better being a spectacle wearer i don't know maybe i've got the wrong end of the stick .
Having only two years with the Bessa R2 there is still a lot to learn.

Congratulations on your new MP. It's a wonderful piece of mechanical engineering.
A .58 viewfinder is indeed the best choice for us spectacle wearing folks using wide angles. I'd say that you can easily focus well up to 50mm with that magnification.
May I ask - is it a chrome or black paint one? Chrome .58ers are supposed to be more "rare".
 
If you're used to a R2, you should be fine in that respect. At least you already know you like shooting a RF! You've got some good glass there that should be fine with the .58 finder. You might want to see how close using the whole VF area works for your 25mm lens - since you've got 28 lines, it might well work for you.

Don't worry, be... as you are!
As your CV's are WA, you bought yourself into the right magnification. Focusing is a bit more difficult, but is not as important as with a tele.
BTW, I wear glasses too and do a lot of 28 mm shooting with a .72 M7 but I feel more hampered by the hood than by not seeing the entire 28 frame. But that's me when street shooting. For critical shots they do get in the way (the specs I mean), but I can always switch back to contact lenses and operate my M by feel...

Welcome by all means and don't fall into GAS, nor into "what have I done" style remorse. A minty MP won't ever set you back.
 
Congratulations geejay! Ffordes are very pleasant to deal with and you've bought a great cam from them. I think your mag choice is spot on for your lens use. 🙂 Use the MP in good health!
 
Geejay, I went and bought an LeicaM2 earlier this year after only holding an M3 once in my life over twenty years ago and then only briefly, (mostly all I remembered was the chunky compact weight of it in my hand)...not many around over here.

I have to say that when I got it it was everything I had heard about and I was very impressed. I had had a Contax IIa before that, but the Leica is indeed everything it has been cracked up to be.
You wont regret it if thats what your worrying about.
 
geejay, congrats on your new purchase and a hearty wish for many many happy years of photography. it is such a marvelous camera. why? because it will fulfill all your needs, now and in the future. enjoy !
 
A great film camera body from a fine seller; just use the entire vf for framing with your 24/25 lens -- it worked quite accurately for me when I shot with a .58 MP. You'll love the 35/28 lines even with spectacles; and with your slow f2,5 50mm, you'll have no trouble focussing! Above all, just shoot and enjoy it.

My M3 is a shelf queen these days since i got my MP. Best camera I have ever owned--I like it better than my D700. If I didn't need the D700 for sports, I would only shoot with the MP.
 
HI Guys,

Thanks very much for all the interest and word of encouragement this is one of the most frendly forums on the net.

Now looking forward to taking lot of photos with the MPs wisper quiet shutter.
Talking of shutters and all things mechanical how often do Leicas need a service etc to keep them in tip top working order is there some sort of official service interval?
