Using a Leica Without the Leatherette

I'm waiting for some covering from Cameraleather. Is there a problem with using a naked M3 ? Or I will get light leaks. I'm mainly concerned by some holes on the back door of the camera.

Nope I shot with a naked IIIa IIIc and M3 for a while before my leather came. No light leaks.

What you call holes are plugged, so they are better called depressions. So far as I know, leatherette was used only for its appearance and to make the camera grippable.

Why did you take the leather off prematurely?

I've recovered both my M7 and M8 with griptac and to remove the old cover and glue, and then to recover with griptac took around 4 hours for each.

It was falling apart... Time did the job.

I have some leatherette missing around the base plate hinge. It gave slight fogging on bright days. I've patched it with a little gaffers tape until I can replace the whole thing.
