Using Filters on un-coated lenses - asking for MORE flare ?

I've been reviewing two sets of prints I recently shot with my Leica III, one set with 1930's uncoated lenses (35 - 50 - 80 - 135 mm), the other set with coated lenses (same focal legnths). All glass was E. Leitz.

Used same film (Fujicolor 200), hoods, same subject (flowers garden) and lighting.

I noticed the uncoated lenses generally produced less contrast, more "pastel" colors, and tended to flare more than their post-war siblings.

So far, no surprises.

I am aware that each "air-glass" transition in a given lens set creates an opportunity for internal reflections & flare.

Does adding a filter (another air-glass transition) increase flare potential with uncoated lenses ? ( or even coated lenses?)

I usually shoot color, and I am a big fan of having a UV filter over a lens as much for mechanical protection as anything else... aside from the UV, I might use a polarizer if I'm shooting around water / large windows.

All my present LTM filters are modern / new Tiffen, Hoya, etc.

Light reflecting off the front element of the lens will go back through the filter almost without another reflection, if the both sides of the filter are coated.
