Using Konica HX18w on a CLE, experiences?

So, I've got a CLE and I've got a Konica HX18w flash.

I've read about how easy you can fry the CLE by using a non-compatible flash, or by taking of a flash when it is still turned on. And now I'm a bit scared to put this flash on, especially since I don't have the funds to replace the CLE if it breaks. Does anyone have hands on experience with this combination?

I know there is the original Minolta flash and have been trying to find the original flash but haven't been able to locate it for a reasonable price. I just want a small size flash for this small rangefinder that doesn't kill it.

The general safety rule is its fine to use single shoe pin flashes with the CLE but if you use other manufacturers dedicated flashes then when their secondary contacts touch the CLEs secondary shoe contacts is where short circuits occur.

While the CLE had its own compact flash the camera is designed to work with any Minolta PX flash. Not only are they stronger than the CLE one they are much much cheaper. I just took a look on that auction site and can see a Minolta 280PX for sale for twenty bucks including postage from Japan. Proper dedicated Minolta flash with safety cut out switch on the shoe to prevent shorts and delivered to your door for a twenty, you cant beat that and no risks messing around with other flashes.

If you want a huge and even more powerful flash you can even get the Minolta 360PX bounce and swivel for about fifty dollars.
