Since I have Version 3, this concerns me if I end up buying the Fuji, which I'm definitely considering.
I interpreted (1st 195😎, (2nd 1969-) and (3rd 1980-) to mean Versions 1, 2 and 3 of this lens.
Why would Version 3 of this lens not work when Versions 1 and 2 work fine?
If anyone has experience using Version 3 of the Summicron 35mm with the Fuji, I'd like to hear about it.

No actual experience with v3 here, but Fuji brand's adapter has electronic contact, which narrow its neck and is the reason for the incompatibility. If you are using off brand adapter it will likely work.

The question that then comes up: Is the off brand adapter as good as the Fuji adapter in allowing M lenses to be used on the Fuji X cameras?

if you check the pic I uploaded early, it's exactly a Ver 3 on the Xe1 with the Fuji adapter. No problem at all.
if you don't need the adapter's build in lens adjustment, you can use any 3rd party adapter. But most of the 3rd party adapters at the same quality level are not cheap too.

The versions that Fuji refers to and the versions we are used to are not the same. I am pretty sure that OUR version 4 pre-asph bokeh king is the model that will not fit with the Fuji adapter. Not the end of the world though, the lens and most others can be used with the inexpensive ($22.00) adapters just fine. just look at the adapters and if they have a narrow throat, like the Fuji brand, they probably won't work. The ones that don't have the narrow throat should work fine, mine does and there's no real loss of functionality. Bob.

The dates indicate that Fuji is lumping what we refer to as the version 2 and version 3 into one group that they call version 2. The version 4 (Fuji's version 3) came out about 1980. Bob.

Thank you for the clarification. I can now see that the version 3 that I own shouldn't cause any problems if I buy the camera and the Fuji adapter. But good to know that, should I ever buy Version 4, I won't have any problem if I purchase an adapter without the narrow throat.

Not all adapters are created equal. The Fuji adapter is well made but does not maintain the correct register distance. This is so as to enable infinity focus on all lenses. The net effect however is that the focus distance scale is off. I covered this in my report mentioned above.
Rayqual, which I have not used, are of high quality, maintain the register difference...which may cause infinity focus issues on some lenses. However Fuji seems to disable the full 3rd party lens menu, so your ability to customise light falloff and distortion is limited. It may be possible to setup the default processing without the adapter attached and this would solve that problem, but I can not attest to that as I have not used it.

Hey Robin, sounds very good. Since I'm seriously considering this combo (together with my other 35mm crons), could you show or give us a link to some of the pictures you shot with this combo (such images are hard to find, even on flickr were I found one shot taken with the asph 35mm cron)

Here is the happy ending of the story. I got a X-E1 with the Fuji M adapter 1 week ago. I use only Leica lens on it and find it's a real pleasure to use. OK it doesn't have the peaking and even the EVF is very good I have to use the 3X magnify almost every time. But the location of the wheel is so perfect that it's so easy -- much easier than any of my Micro 4/3 camera.
The IQ from the X-E1 is very impressive. I use the standard film mode and find the color is very pleasing.
I prefer the interface of the X-E1 to the NEX camera. And it's also slightly bigger and fit better in my hands. I have to purchase a Half case to rest my little finger.

I agree. I bought the xp1 to use my Leica glass. I got the 35 Fuji too.Now the Leica stuff just sits and all my new Fuji glass is used.

The Fujis and NEXs are different in a few ways but either one is great. I shoot Fuji but if someone said: "tomorrow you start shooting NEX," that would be peachy. Both systems are light, compact, and offer good value and great image quality. The differences are there but in the end they are not nearly as significant as some would claim.
