So, how much would you, or have you payed for a VALOO lens hood for your Elmar 50f3.5 lens, assuming you felt the need/desire to have one. I never found a satisfactory hood option for this lens. The feature of this model of hood is the ability to easily change aperture settings.

They do seem a little spendy relative to what the lenses themselves cost, so have never sprung for one, though I should as it does seem to be the best option. So, I guess my answer is I Have never been willing, yet, to pay what they are worth, but some day, some day...

I just checked sold listings on eBay. The prices were $50, 60, and 90. The $50 one was cosmetically poor.

I paid $60 for a cosmatically good one....I've paid more for a Summarit hood :(

Only used it a few times so far, as the 5cm Elmars take second place to my 5cm Hektor at the moment.

I always understood that the VALOO hood was originally for the darkroom. I found it very heavy and rather clumsy.

Better FISON plus VOOLA as originally intended!

(Unless you can find the Cooke and Perkins hood)

I used to have a VALOO when I had this lens and used it maybe one time for taking photos and a couple of times in the darkroom. To large and heavy for my taste.

Is the Elmar known for flair without a hood?
It is my primary lens & I'd rather not use one.
I can make one in the shop, if necessary.

Only if the sun is out:)

I have not found it to be horrible, but it will flare if abused, and mine is a later red dial coated one. Since I have never had a hood on mine due to the issue with how to get to the aperture, I am only assuming a hood would yield nicer results.

If you are going to make a hood for this lens that allows for one to incorporate filters and control the aperture without removing the hood, make extras as I doubt you would have any trouble selling them:) I will take the first one:)

It is fairly easy to cobble something once.
Production? Not so much...

My VALOO cost $60 or so, and is in decent shape, and sits unused. Destined for sale. I found a mint boxed Fison last Sunday for $40.

The Cooke and Perkins hood has apertures marked and will take a filter. It does all that you ask.

I also refer you again to VOOLA that can be fitted within a filter or hood.

Hi,

Our Chinese friends didn't pick it up, alas.

Worse still, the number of people called Perkins who have written cookbooks...

Regards, David

I found a VALOO for around $60 or so. I think I got it from KEH, but it may have been an ebay purchase. I also have a FISON hood, which works great on my '47 Elmar 50/3.5 but doesn't stay attached to the '32 Nickel Elmar. Hence the VALOO. It's an ugly little piece of work and adds bulk to the Elmar, but it does make changing the aperture easier.
