I can't resist and show some of mine.
It is the best camera I ever purchased, considering that I happened upon it at a yard sale and got it for $20. Well, it took about $100 for the great Essex Camera to calibrate the shutter and rangefinder. And even the meter is functioning. Fits in my pocket too, so it became my primary camera for most normal daylight situations (the other one is R2M with a couple of more modern and faster CV lenses).

Fine work, fine images, fine camera, I have one too, in good condition, meter doesnt work, long times hanging, but it isnt a problem 🙂
It would be great to find a lens hood for our camera, have some idea? Mauro

I have two Vitessas, early version with clip-on cold shoe, and later one, with built-in meter, fixed cold shoe and strap lugs. I have purchased early one with two filters and a hood in original case. This hood also fits all three Vito IIa's, I also have, and Vitomatic IIa. It does not, however, fit Ultron on later Vitessa, which seems to have larger diameter. I don't recall the actual sizes right now.

I have the hood. You can find it on ebay from time to time, I see one there now; I got mine much cheaper than that a few years ago.

Hardly ever use it though, I did not encounter flare with this lens.

I just bought one off ebay and it's definitely a lovely camera. Everything works, slow speeds are a touch slow perhaps.

On mine though, the opening of the barn doors and the extension of the lens seems rather abrupt and loud. Is this characteristic of Vitessas?

Also, I'm still trying to find a way to close the camera without guillotining my thumb on the sharp edges of the door. I use my other fingers to spread the doors apart a bit first, which makes the lens go down a little smoother, but it's an awkward maneuver.

Any tips from the Vitessa users here?

I inherited a vitessa from my father and he always insisted that I keep my thumb of my
left hand over the plunger as I opened the camera, as this stopped the plunger shooting up as it was opened. Apparently he was told to do this by the salesman who sold him the camera, to stop the plunger mechanism being damaged. must work as the camera still functions perfectly (except for the obligitory slow shutter speeds)

you should catch the opening motion as to not put too much stress on the mechanics.

close the door by pushing with two fingers, one above, and one below the lens, on the silver ring. Works nicely. And check the manual 🙂

I actually did, otherwise I would have no clue how to close it at all! 😱
It just seems to need a lot of pressure, and when it finally starts closing, it's abrupt, causing the barn doors to cut into my thumb.

Just wondering if it's supposed to be like that or if it's gotten a little tighter over the years.
