Three photos from this afternoon, stopped down to f.11. Normally, with a 50mm lens, I would expect that the entire image would be in focus at this aperture, but as you can see the background is a little out of focus. Suggests possibilities for using this lens for portraits and street photos on sunny days, when stopping down is called for…. Leica M-E Type 240, Voigtlander Heliar Classic 50mm f1.5:

Nice, Steve, I like it that the dept of field is small, even when stopped down. The shot with the chickens at the bar seems to be free from distortion. Was that one stopped down too?

Well done, Steve.
Now we need to decide ... CV Heliar 50/1.5 or CV ASPH 50/1.0?

Thank you Erik and Raid! The photo of the chickens at the bar was taken at f2.0.

Two chickens walk into a bar…
...and order a rum and coke-a-doodle-doo!!!
Jokes aside, that's a great photo. I don't need another 50mm lens (I know, famous last words

Lovely shot at f1.5, Steve. Not much difference here between film and digital; in this case film has just a bit more grain but a slightly better drawing in the light parts (sky) due to splitgrade printing.

Thanks, Erik. I do think it has a film-like look wide open, even though this is from a digital file.

Very nice Steve, thank you for letting me know. Beautiful shots. I'm happy that you choose material I am familiar with. The shots on film here have a kind of 1960s atmosphere. The lens has more caracter on film than on digital IMO.
Until now I did not use the lens stopped down. I will try the lens stopped down soon, but for the time being I am trying to get a very old Leica back to work.

Thanks, Erik! And I like your shot above, with the reflections creating a beautiful layering effect. I’m going to shoot more with the lens in the coming weeks, stopped down as well as wide open and at f.2, and am thinking about taking along for landscape work on my next photo trip out of town.

Yes, this image has a lot of depth to it. Many things can be seen in it. Beautifully caught, Erik.

Thanks Raid, the two guys on the right are enjoying a shelling of the northern part of Amsterdam.
