I am still getting my head around my new collection of FSU's and am having interesting and sometimes challenging days. I was wondering if I put a new Voigtlander 50mm Colour Skopar on my Fed2 would the rangefinder still work or would I need a separate viewfinder?

Cheers

Stephen

That combo should work well. An external 50mm viewfinder isn't necessary but it does make it easier to see what you're shooting. i use one on a leica IIf, a Contax IIa, and a Nikon S, as they all have squinty finders. If you were to use a faster, longer CV lens on your Fed body, there may be some focussing issues due to slight differences between the leica standard and the FSU build.

I don't know whether this is a real problem or not, or whether there is something wrong with my gear, but here's an experience:
When my first Bessa L died, after just a few rolls of film, I thought of replacing it with an FSU body. So I bought a FED 3. I quickly gave up, since the lens wouldn't thread into the body all the way; it seems the Russians and Cosina have different ideas what angle the lens should tighten at. The "top" of the lens was canted about 15 degrees when threaded tight.
Also, my FED has proved to have so many problems (pinhole in shutter curtain, other light leaks, scratches film) that it became a paperweight. I ended up buying another Bessa L, and it has worked flawlessly for a couple of years now.

Your problem with the fit oon the Bessa L is one I have also experienced but it does not seem to make any difference on my 15mm lens, but then I guess it wouldn't. Also had jammed shutter problem on Bessa but a return to Robert White fixed it by return of post.
Bought a Zorki 2S on eBay with a hole in the shutter (only visible when cocked) and even as a complete novice at this was able to dismantle and fix with some gasket goo. Loads of advise on here as to how to...
Must say though I really love the Bessa L with the 15mm. Great street camera.

I have both Fed2 and Bessa R2 cameras.
All the CV lenses I have 15,21,25,28,35,50,and90 will fit the Fed with two exceptions.
The 15 will not line up on the camera properly and sits at about45deg to the correct position which can cuse vignetting problems with the fixed petal hood.
But more importantly DO NOT TRY TO FIT THE 90mm lens as it will jam on the camera due to the design of the Fed R/F cam.!!

BTW: there is no problem mounting Leica (Canon...) glass on FSU cameras. The problem is mounting FSU glass on Leica (Canon...).

FSU cameras have the drop shaped RF cam. It can be adjusted for close focussing of FSU lenses (Contax standard focal lenght 52.3mm) or Leica lenses (Leica standard 51.6mm). But once you adjust, you cannot interchange FSU and Leica glass...

You can use the shorter Canon glass on an FSU camera but do bot try to use any of the longer lenses with the RF tongue rather than the ring. Once on, you are likely to have a fixed lens camera. :(
