Hey Vincent, I will try to find some photos that I took with the lens stopped down, I usually don't shoot it that way, but I think I have a couple photos lying around here somewhere....I will post them when I can...
As far as the 15mm goes, if I am using my m6 then I use the internal meter and I will usually open it up a half stop, it depends on the picture obviously, but I tend to open it up a half stop of whatever my meter is telling me when I use the 15mm. If I am using it on my m3/m2 then I use a hand held meter (sekonic 358) and I just go with it, I don't tend to meter a lot when I am shooting, just a couple quick checks and adjust as I shoot...
As far as composing is concerned, the more you use the lens and experiement with it when you first get it, you will learn how to use it and how NOT to use it...composing can be really easy with it , because after a while, you start to see 15mm shots and the viewfinder is just there for a quick check.....
I can shoot pretty fast with 15mm...the focusing is easy...I used a rollei 35 for a couple of years as my only camera and I learned how to adjust the focusing and aperture on that and now when I use the 15mm, it is so easy to do.
hope that helps...cheers, michael
Hi Michael
It's great to hear from you. How's your trip? I am looking forward to more pictures from you. I am considering nokton 35mm f/1.2 now and the more I see your pictures, the more I want to get it. The other nokton I have in mind is 50mm f/1.5 and both focal lengths are quite close so it's a tough call for me. Any advice?
15mm f/4.5 will be a must-have for me since I like to shoot wide angles.

I traded my Canon 135 f/2L for a Nokton (and a bunch of film) the other day and took the new toy for a walk.

Staales, I'm thinking about trading my 135L for a 35 nokton ... I just bought it last month, but frankly I've only shot about 10 pictures with it. I think those L lenses are just becoming too big for me
I love the pictures posted in this thread. I really like those wide open pictures.

all shot on m6 + bw400cn with silver efex tri-x simulation and split toning.
beautiful lens that works so well with film or digital..the way it draws is just so beautiful, not as "perfect" a lens as the nokton 1.1 but in a good way.

Yeah the 35/1.2 has some character while the 50/1.1 is severely lacking in that department.

Does the nokton 35mm f/1.2 blocks a M2 viewfinder with 35mm framelines? The lens looks long though. Does it affect the way we compose?

I have both the 35/1.2 Nokton and the 35 Summicron v4. I have never noticed the Summicron with its hood in the frame of my M6 .72 (same as M2).
Last night I was checking meter batteries in my M6's and put the Nokton on the M6 .72, it blocks a pretty significant part of the lower right hand corner of the frame, I'd guess maybe 15 - 20% of the total. But this wouldn't stop me from using it given how I compose and typically shoot a rangefinder.
Hi JSU
Thanks for the help.
I guess the blockage is expected given the size of the nokton. Every lens has its pros and cons.

on the top of your second pics it seems to me that there is some distortion or not?
distort more or less Vs summilux 35/1,4 asph?

Regarding the discussion about composing w/ the f1.2 - I don't think I ever took a vertical portrait with this lens, since I tilt the camera with the finder downwards - which means the lens blocks 1/4 of the top right corner, where commonly the head is located. It does suck.

Just bought this lens the other day to compliment my Summicron 2/35 ASPH. I really enjoy the size of this lens (I have really big hands), and it balances nicely with the grip attached. I have ran a few rolls through my M7 with the Nokton attached, and I am very impressed with the images. I did some comparitive shots with the 'cron and I find the Leica slightly sharper on the edges, but the Nokton has a better and creamier rendering for my tastes. I like to shoot wide open, and usually the outer zones have faded into nice boke, so the slight advantage of the 'cron is mostly wasted. I also have the Summilux 1.4/75mm, and this is a bigger lens than the Nokton, so I am used to the size, and coming from shooting D3's with bloated zoom lenses, the Nokton is small.
I will now likely replace the 'Cron with a Colour Skopar pancake, which is even smaller, but for now, the Nokton will suit all of my 35mm needs.

Tom,just a question for you:do you think that the VF 's obstruction is a problem on everyday's use?(mainly in vertical portrait??)Thanks

No I don't think so. To be honest, I was expecting the viewfinder obstruction to be greater, but it is about the same as my 75mm 'lux. I'm a left eye shooter as well, so I'd image that if I were able to shoot with my right, then it would be even less of an issue.
Here's a few more....

I find that vertical portraits are difficult with the Nokton's VF obstruction. I use it on an R-D1 (1:1 VF magnification) and I shoot with shutter release on top in vertical mode, and if I'm trying to put the face in the upper right quadrant it's impossible to watch for the right expression.
