Hi All,

Recently acquired a very nice 50mm 1.5 Nokton for my Prominent II. I'd like to start looking for the appropriate lens hood for the Nokton and being a collector and shooter, it would be nice to try and find the actual Voigtlander hood.

I'm having some confusion over what exact model hood the look for. The Voigtlander literature that I have seen states that the appropriate hood is the 310/47 (i think it's a push-on). However, I have also seen the 310/49 with a filter kit and case also claiming to fit the Nokton.

Any ideas that could lead me down the correct path?

Thanks!

Not sure if this helps. I had a Prominent 20 or so years back but it had the Ultron lens. That lens certainly used the 310/49 hood - I know as I found one in a store way back then for $10 if I recall correctly and used it on that camera/ lens combo. Very lucky given they now go for big numbers on eBay. I sold my kit when I took up digital image making and so do not have it. From memory the one I had years ago looked like this one below and I think had a slip on / rotating locking ring (?). Just like the one depicted.

What I can say is this. The 49 in the designation of this hood type refers to the filter diameter - 49mm. If the Nokton has a 49mm filter diameter like the Ultron it should fit perfectly. If you can find one at a reasonable price.

About 2 years ago I got lucky once more and bought the same hood model at a camera fair for a mere few bucks. I use it on non Voigtlander lenses at this stage just because I like it. Many other people do likewise and seem to like them on Fujifilm x100 series of cameras as they fit the lens and look nice on that classic looking camera. But I note that my most recent hood acquisition has a female thread mount at the front (as you can also see in the above picture) and I use the hood with a male to male 49mm to 49mm adapter ring on eBay. Mounted thus it screws onto any 49mm diameter lens. It looks identical to the above picture but I cannot now recall exactly and for certain how it locked into place on the Voigtlander lens I once had - I had thought it had a kind of locking ring but my memory is a little deficient in this detail. If the Nokton is 49mm it would almost certainly fit. Your problem is going to be finding one at a price you are willing to pay without breaking the bank. I was very lucky to find one cheaply - most people will not be and I do not imagine I ever would be so lucky again given these can go for asking prices of $100 and up.

As to the 310/47 slip on hood I am sorry I have seen one once but have no experience in using it so cannot enlighten you specifically on this hood. What Voigtlander seemed to do with later models of equipment is to simplify their accessories (ie make the cheaper) I suspect this may have been such a later model hood but do not know what lens it is intended for. (As suggested above check the filter diameter as this is the primary determinant of suitability). In relation to cheaper build, the same kind of thing happened with Voigtlander's excellent "Turnit" accessory finders. The early ones were metal bodied. Some later versions were made more cheaply of plastic. Incidentally you may wish to consider getting an early Turnit especially if you buy more lenses for your camera in different focal lengths. These are not so silly expensive as the hoods, being I presume, in less demand.
